British Lion on Hackney Rd is a friendly place. Next week on tour perhaps?
Is it really?
I've always assumed from the look of the place that it was a BNP nutter type pub.Next week we'll be at the Orwell. The week after at the Bicycle Film Festival launch thingy, and the week after that at the Captain Kidd in Wapping.

organised or what! well done.

That's the end of the list. I'm thinking the Approach again in 4 weeks, cos it will be cold and wet and they have huge awnings and lots of patio heaters

Good evening and thanks for the mechanical help - was much easier to ride home without a wobbly front wheel and much faster in top gear.
I am in trouble for getting home so late though and have to clean the flat and cook tonight now!

the way you say it "will be cold and wet" makes me think that you have inside knowledge. i might go to my local turf accountant and have a little flutter.

No worries:
You need one of these
http://www.freemanscycles.co.uk/product2.asp?product_id=1487&pname=Fulcrum%20Sleeve%20HSJ515
to go in hereI note that they sell the 1 inch fulcrum clip with one included, but your clip is ok
These appear to be the same part that goes on the small fulcrum clip on the rear stays of more recent models, so you could probably nab one from an abandoned bike somewhere. And oil and grease things

Just tell her that it's OK, because you were with some people you met on the Internet.

Thanks Niall, I definitely wouldn't have known what it was called if you hadn't told me.
Although Bikefix this morning didn't really seem to know what it was either, although we eventually established they don't have any. What kind of oil do you use? The internetz don't seem to agree on what kind to use, some people say oil with detergent, some say without, although 30W motor oil seems to come up a lot first.
Should I flush it out with WD40 or something first or would that be a bad idea?

He (Robbie) does basically think I'm weird for going to meet people 'from the internet'.
If I went to meet people from a bike club that would be ok though obviously because it's 'offline'. Silly irrational medium phobia =)Just tell her that it's OK, because you were with some people you met on the Internet.

Tell him that obviously we're upstanding and intelligent people. They wouldn't just let anyone on the internet, would they?

Thanks Oliver, that's a good idea, from what I've heard he wouldn't look at me like I've asked for a long weight if I ask for a fulcrum sleeve!

I have tried to explain that we are all cyclists, who are clearly more intelligent and enlightened people in the first place, everything else aside...

Just fill it up with SAE30 lawnmower oil or SAE80 motorcycle/scooter gear oil (they are the same weight, despite the different numbers - different scales, see) until it drips out of the axle. You won't need much. Get a 10ml syringe to put the oil in - much easier than getting the bottle in there.
Sturmey sell their own but it's very poor value.
http://www.freemanscycles.co.uk/product2.asp?product_id=1585&pname=Cycle%20Oil
£2.95 for 100mlAnd it's more or less the same stuff as this
http://www.racelubricants.co.uk/VP/castrol-garden-4-stroke/castrol-garden-4t-1-ltr-106.aspx
£4.49 for a litregear oil here, but it's pricey
http://www.powersport.co.uk/07stockdetail.php?partno=PUT/GP80.1&catno=I2&department=Lubricants&groupid=0&show=3&group=1
£752 for a litre. -

I did actually go SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY oh, it's a typo.
-
• #6272
My shoes are still wet.
Go to a wilkinsons if one is near you they have the oil for about £2 for 500ml and it will last ages.
BQ found a brompton rear wheel with a 5 speed hub want to take it apart?
-

That's Rapha oil. It's nice, but...
Thanks again Niall, you're a veritable fountain of Sturmey knowledge =)

"found?"
What hub? they don't sell them with 5 speeds these days. I am intrigued.
Can you "find" me a Brompton rear brake too? (want the bottom loading sort)
Did you check out Catford Lidl btw?
-
• #6275
Its an black XRF 5 hub on a 20 inch wheel so its a brompton or maybe another folder. Its missing the cahnge wire too. Found as at the side of the road by a bin. Not buckled either so I collected it and took it home.
Catford is a bit of a way at the moment but should be there later today so will cycle past.
Nice evening!
I'm not sure if I'll make it next week, as I'm going to the Herne Hill meeting. I might make it up to Islington very late.
Sorry, Joe, it didn't cross my mind when we were talking about the Orwell. The default assumption was that I'd be there!
