  • I'm gonna put the Zipp on for maximum aero.

  • Australian, ok then what?

  • i know i haven't been out since i organised the east's bbq (which i didn't attend as well) but i wanted to suggest a pub which i walked past last night. it's the camel on the corner of globe road and sugar loaf walk, e2. looks really nice and cosy with seating outside and lots of railings for locking up.

probably won't be able to make it there either :(

  • for those trying to find it on google street view, type in 278 globe road.

  • Will be there in a bit with a baby bike.

I loved your baby bike. :O)

  • @rocksteady, the Camel is a good suggestion IMO. I haven't been there for ages but if I remember correctly they do pies at reasonable prices. This would obviously need confirmation via a pint and pie tasting reconaissance mission. The Flowers is just down the road and they do pizzas if i remember rightly which could also be worth a look, although bike locking could be an issue.

Other posts above mention the Morgan Arms, I have been there and it's an over priced gastro affair with an affluent clientele, due to the surrounding mansion houses and the square nearby. Personally I don't think it's what we are looking for but others may dissagree.

Another suggestion perhaps after the Camel is the Shakespeare. It is somewhat controversial as it's in an N postcode, but only just. It does real ale, has railings for bikes, outside seating and does no food whatsoever so you can get a pizza next door and eat it in the pub.

  • No from me for the mogan arms, my first thought when seeing it was "ponse pub" and I stick by it.

  • I didn't like the pub very much. eggpie may well be posting evidence of part of the reason why soon. I thought a lot of it was quite tasteless (toilets, stuffed animals, external paint job), and the draught beer selection was poor. But I had a good time. Great to see everybody! I make it out to Easts too rarely these days.

  • I cycled home so fast, fucking love that Zipp.

  • The Camel's a nice pub but smallish. Still do the pies AFAIK.

  • @ hoonz - i think the flowers and camel are owned by the people.

You're pretty much the only person who didn't think it was awesome.

Still if you will insist on drinking that hideous piss you call beer, expect to be disappointed. And overcharged.

  • This is the pub I was talking about last night, Niall.

    Kenton Arms, Kenton Rd E9.
Apparently there's a big garden out back.

  • Oh yeah, the Kenton's nice. Also does pies, and has a beer garden.

  • I'd be up for it if we can come to some sort of arrangement permitting bikes in the garden.

  • The couple of times I've been there the staff have been very friendly. Like the Britannia, I expect they'd be happy to accommodate some bikes in the garden if it means they get 10-20 extra customers on a quiet weekday evening. Worth talking to them of course... The only bike locking option there is those railings out the front and you can barely see them from inside.

  • Yeah I was scouting the area for a while when I was looking for The Hemingway (wrong postcode in thread title... puts it right where the Kenton is - ha!) and it doesn't seem like the best place to leave a dozen or more very expensive bikes unattended...

  • All I'm going to say is that I was promised Moulton Brown and classical music. Nobody mentioned the giant teeth..

  • Hahahah

  • Incidentally, who has pictures of the stuffed Hillbilly?

  • @ hoonz - i think the flowers and camel are owned by the people.

Really? Sweet. Does that mean we get free beer?

  • Big Ben took a few
    Those toilets were ace.
    as were the chips.

I've passed the Camel a few times but never been in. I'll check it out
The Kenton looks nice from the picture. Definitely worth further investigation.

  • I've been past the Kenton loads of times, looks to be fairly quiet most of the time so could be a winner on cheap food. I've never been in but the garden looks tiny from the road, maybe there is another larger on on the other side away from the one way street?

  • Pieminster pie and mash for £8.50 is good value.
As is £3.10 for a pint of Landlord, and Hoegarden on Tap for the Schickster.
If Fruitbat gets there before 6pm they have a pensioner's special, Landlord for £2.
They say they have extended the garden. Fancy an exploratory fact-finding mission?

  • Those toilets were ace.

    My penis is still scared
