Westbourne Park Rd is W2, about 7 or 8 miles away. We're not doing the A40, that would be insane. Probably go down the Hipster Spice Route, through soho/noho or oxford street, bayswater, notting hill.
Laura from BFF has asked me to lead out the ride from Tour de Ville tomorrow so I figured I'd better be prepared.
I did a reccy tonight for the route down on my way home. I know it's within London's famous London and not in the far flung back blocks of Kent or wherever, but when I looked at the map there is no obvious and direct yet pleasant route.
The options were as I saw it:
- go Clerkenfix road, oxford street, bayswater etc. Easy but oxford street really does suck arse.
- go via essex road, angel, A501 past Kings Cross & Euston, turn off near Paddington, down to Bayswater etc. The A501 (I thought this was the A40) is poxy as.
- Go via Camden and Regents Park, onto the A501 for about 1-2mins and then turn off towards Paddington, down to Bayseater blah blah. I have directish route from London Fields to Camden without having to go up through Holloway and back down again.
So, the route from London Fields to Camden:
- ride down path towards Richmond Rd, past Pub on the Park
- turn left on to Richmond Road
- turn right on to Kingsland Road
(note Dalston Lane 1 way in wrong direction, Forest Road blocked off) - turn left on to Balls Pond Road
- straight on to St Pauls Road and Highbury Corner
- At Highbury Corner take 2nd exit on to Upper Street
- take first right on to Laycock Street
- straight on to Offord Road
- turn right on to Caledonian road
- turn left on to Brewery Road (Eagle Pub)
- straight on to Agar Grove
- turn right on to Murray Street (The Murray Pub)
- turn left on to Camden Road
- I was gonna stop the directions here but go hard or go home I guess.
Camden to Destination: - Bear left on to Bayham street
- turn right on to Pratt street
- straight on to Delancy Street
- turn left on to Parkway
- turn right into Gloucester Gate
- turn right on to Outer Circle (Regents Park)
- straight on to Baker Street
- turn right on to Marylebone Rd A501
- turn left on to old Marylebone Road
- straight on to Sussex Gardens
- bear left on to Westbourne street,
- turn right on to Bayswater Road
- turn right on to Pembridge road (at roundabout take 2nd exit, Pembridge Road)
- turn left on to Chepstow Crescent
- straight on to Ledbury Road
- Left on to Westbourne Park Road
2 secs to Destination! No. 215.
We don't have to do this of course, open to suggestions.
- go Clerkenfix road, oxford street, bayswater etc. Easy but oxford street really does suck arse.

Well another reminder that there is no drinks at the east pub tonight but a ride out to west London.

damn, i'm going to miss this.
have fun folks -

i'd favour a blend of 2 & 3, going west from essex rd across upper st to barnsbury & then either down calshot st to caledonian rd & up crowndale st to Camden or the other way, offord rd, agar grove - perhaps we should split up & race

I'm not gonna make this ride after all, but on the route, I led the ride to Kew a couple of bridges rides ago and Oxford St was not too bad at that hour. You can always detour down Bond St and then up past Grosvenor Square, through the cycle path in Hyde Park and back up onto Bayswater Rd.
The other option is to get onto Wigmore St either by turning right (followed by a left) at Oxford Circus or at John LewisTurn right at A4201/Regent St
Turn left at A5204/Cavendish Pl
Continue on Seymour St
Slight right at Connaught Square
Turn left at Connaught St
Turn left at Hyde Park St
Turn right at Hyde Park Square
Continue on Strathearn Pl
Continue on Sussex Pl
Turn left at A4209/Sussex Gardens
Slight left to stay on A4209/Sussex Gardens
Turn right at Sussex Gardens
Turn left at Westbourne Crescent
Turn right at Gloucester Terrace
Turn right at B411/Porchester Rd
Turn left at Westbourne Park Rd -

Might not be a bad idea.
Is it time for stage 7 already or are we doing it early to take advantage?
500s though, not the kilo. -
• #3889
Whichever way easts at rollers sounds mint.
-

I know RP is usually a knockout event but for the ToEL shall we just take the first time as the official time and go from that? People get slower through the rounds anyway.
-
• #3893
yeah. somert like that. hand in your qualification times to somebody. fastest gets 20 pts, second fastest gets 19 pts etc.
-
• #3894
^ we are going to be running it as much more of a 'have a go' session than a knockout race. We are there for 3 hours and I plan on only making the top 4 men & women race. Though this may change to reflect the mood of the evening.
-
• #3895
^ but will you be recording and giving out times to the havagoers ?
-
• #3896
Of course & taking photo's.
-
• #3897
Excellent. Sounds like it'll be a good evening.
Now, where are we gonna move on to after it's finished?
Any good cyclist-friendly pubs in the area? -
• #3898
Me and miss_socks will see you all at the science museum tomorrow. Should be a good one.

Any good cyclist-friendly pubs in the area? The John Snow in the west end?
Hillbilly are you coming incognito or in your case more outcognito?

Last time I went to the Snow they said you had to be 'a member' to drink outside or something. Must have been having trouble from the council recently.
I was wondering about that place we had the last forum birthday at. The Wilton Arms in Kinnerton St, near the Berkley.
They are awaiting vetting pre being posted.
