  • Turbo done, fish finger sandwich and peas consumed. I can go to bed feeling just a little better about myself even if now I am well and truly cooked.

  • I got a turbo trainer in the house and I use my geared road bike on it no problem. But i want to use my Fixe on it for a change.

Problem is the axle isnt long enough... Any advice ??

  • In the long run, my favourite turbo accessories have been:

    i) dedicated turbo rear wheel.

    ii) industrial fan.

You could probably add 'iii) self-loathing' to the list as well :/

bucket loads of self loathing right now so thinking of getting one.

do you stand by your endorsement of the Cyclops Fluid2 from '08?

  • Yeah. Mine's about 7 or 8 years old now, and still going strong. Probably seen more mileage than a lot of people's fixie bikes on this site.

It developed a rhythmic creak a few weeks ago, the first sign of grouchiness. I unscrewed the L-bolt that acts as a hinge for the resistance unit, regreased the threads, and we're back to silent running.

    Good work on the self-loathing.

  • just got a basic TACX magnetic adjustable job. can only just get a 700c wheel on if it has 20c tyre, and it then just spins like an UNT. bikes I have both sport 27" which won't fit. So can only really use with mtb with 1.5" slicks. even with max pressure + 20% they still slip against the metal.
so I barely ever use it.
only when its cold to get my knees going before I head out.

    Excellent, thanks

  • Obviously I meant 'silent running'.

  • I hadn't been on it for a few months, so I dragged it up the Telegraphe and Galibier yesterday. Didn't bother with Alpe d'Huez, cos that's a lot of extra weight to be climbing mountains with.

  • can anyone point me to any decent training plans/ turbo session guides online?

  • thanks Mergy - weird the Rolla link didn't work for me yesterday. Seems fine now

  • It was old, they'd moved it. I updated it coz that's the nice guy I am.

  • also

    awesome dubtap, thanks mate

  • I've got one dvd that came free with my turbo and I am bored to death of it. I'm thinking of buying some sufferfest dvds for this winter, but they are not cheap.

In light of that, I wondered if it might be an idea to start a turbo dvd library, so that anyone who likes to use dvds whilst training can share them with others. If there is any interest maybe start a new thread with the a summary of the DVDs you are happy to share. E.g.

    **Tatty-Viking **

  • Great thread. I'm off to pick the turbo up from my parents this weekend. I'll try and get in a session this weekend.

  • Looking at getting these,
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-fluid-elastogel-trainer/ £129.99
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-volare-mag-alu-trainer/£91.49
Anyone recommend a a cheaper trainer that willbe quiet enough to not piss my flatmates off?

  • um - I've only got experience with my Tacx Sirius and its actually reasonably quiet - no complaints from flatmates/neighbors yet. Got it for £60 off gumtree - but £160 new. 2nd hand is probably the way to go if you're tight for cash

  • or if your even tighter for cash, build your own!

I've got a t-trainer and always get tyre slip (its a basic magnetic tacx) so attempting to build a home made roller. So far got two lengths of steel (4mm) and two rollers (on 4x ball bearings each) courtesy of an old conveyor line, but nothing else!
Need> one more roller, a belt or chain (and cogs & pulleys to go with) and some feet!
For the feet I'm thinking of oil filled damper jobs, I've seen some lying around but can't think where!

  • Taking advantage of daylight savings I did my first turbo session this morning before work.
I guess I will find out tonight if I pissed my flatmates off or not.
elite-crono-fluid-elastogel-trainer went for this is the end it was pretty damn quiet.
Turbo tyre on the way so hopefully I can cut down on the last bit of noise.

  • Turbo trainer tyre what a fucking difference!
oddly enough the best thing I found for damping the sound was some Havaianas thongs under the contact points.
Now I have to sort out my other wheel so I can just swap em over.

  • What exactly is the difference- quieter?

  • Sorry I'm never that great at clarifying myself, It cut the "wurrring" noise down to almost nothing. The thing that makes the most noise now is my breathing or the shifting of gears

  • using my turbo makes me want to die. turbo videos, TdF footage or loud "repetitive beats music" don't help.
fuck that thing, this winter i'm doing daily spin classes with the gym-narcissists.

  • So Mao you considering selling your turbo??!
