  • Trainerroad always makes it look very wobbly.

See my comment here re how much smoother things are in TrainingPeaks...

  • Cool - thanks.

Yeah there is a 'power smoothing (secs)' in settings, so I guess this guy has set that relatively high.

  • There is a power smoothing setting on the direto. I have no idea what it does though, I think its default to 2 or 3 seconds.

  • I’ve been playing around with this and it seems smoothing only smooths the number you can see on screen during the workout. The graph will always look jumpy.

That’s with using a PM. I have no experience of smart turbos.

  • There's no way that second graph is an accurate representation of power values.
Is it because it's recording the load setting on the trainer rather than actual rider power? Even with long arse averaging enabled it seems far too rigid to me.

Even if it's taken from trainer only, it's still implausible...

Power Graphed with only Smart Trainer:

Power Graphed with PowerMatch (Smart Trainer + Power Meter):

This is another crazily matched power graph and it's from the KICKR.

"When you see really smooth lines the person is likely using the Wahoo KICKR or another trainer like it. These trainers can set the power and the person will just pedal to hit that number. So trainerroad tells the KICKR to be at 200 watts and no matter what cadence the person uses, they have to pedal at 200 watts. At least, that is how I understand it. So their lines are always crisp and tight. Here is a Wahoo KICKR Ride I found on the Ride Feed. Notice how they are always right on the line even when their cadence changes? With normal trainers you would see greater ups and downs in power, which is fine. "

So, I would expect similar from Computrainer since it's load is controlled by TR but my power lines are never that smooth. Although I also have an ANT+ dongle connected to my Powermeter so it's possibly recording that and using the CT for ERG load only, although that seems odd.

  • I did that workout last night and it looks like this. Using powermatch of P2max with direto

  • So, no response from TR about my inability to login to their Workout Creator. I installed all the old Racermate Computrainer software last night (it's free now) and made up my overunder workout with warmups and rest periods and shit. I've not tried it yet so who know what will happen. Expect swearing.

  • How do you access the power smoothing setting - is it through the Elite E training app?

(Sorry, still trying to make mine work)

  • That's how I expect a power graph to look.

  • Yes the app. Its under parameters - advanced configuration.

  • Ta very much, will piss around with that later

  • For a cheap-ish upgrade to a dual Bluetooth LE/ANT+ HRM Decathlon sell a pod only for £14.99 that fits a Garmin soft strap and a Polar (with plastic trimmed).

  • Nice one - you tried this?

  • Yep bought one today and tested with both straps. Had Strava running on phone with BTLE and Garmin Edge on ANT+ recording at the same time.

  • Damn, I bought it with a strap! Seems to work fine.

  • Fuck yeah.

Not quite the Pat Cash look I wanted but these will do.

  • Going to buy a turbo trainer. Got a baby on way so need to multitask riding/babycare. Understand that magnetic are louder/less real feeling than fluid. So I'm trying to find a cheap fluid. Got these options:

    1. Cycleops basic fluid trainer. £110.
    2. Lifeline TT02 fluid trainer.. £130.

Is the lifeline one worth £20 more than the cyclops? Or will they both do the same job?

Anyone got a spare CRC or Wiggle discount code?

  • If you are in London, I have hardly used Kurt Road Machine 2(?) in my loft with a turbo tyre; £100 if you can collect from SE London.

  • Alas, I'm not in London and won't be visiting for quite a while.

  • Does anyone want a Cycleops Fluid 2 and riser block? Barely used.

    £50

  • Pm sent

  • If @littleK doesn't want, and you're willing to post then yes.

  • Sorry. Definitely not willing to post.
