Vinz The End Of Mr Y - Scarlett Thomas
Just finished that one. Another thing I ordered at the library. It was like she'd suddenly grown up as a writer, possibly due to teaching creative writing at university now (not that she was bad before). Didn't like the ending, but the journey was a blast.
I can't make claims about her trying to suck me off in a taxi, but I did go to school with her... briefly... before she got kicked out for some sort of illicit substance misdemeanour rumour thingy.

velocity boy
repeatclicks On my third Kurt Vonnegut book, The Sirens Of Titan. Also read Breakfast of Champions and Deadeye Dick. Will soon be reading "Mother Night".
"The Fuck Up" by Arthur Neresian is good, as well as "Chinese Takeout"
Anything by Charles Bukowski, and I also hear Henry Millers, "Tropic of Cancer" and "Tropic of Capricorn" are not to be missed as well, but I have yet to read them.
Oh and anything by Haruki Murakami (Norweigan Wood is a great start).
Bloody hell, you've been at my book shelves haven't you.
chris crash any other sherlock holmes fans?
Hell yeah. Read those when I was much younger and they still stick with me. Just outstanding. I have an old 3 vol set printed in the 30s that belonged to a grandfather. Basil Rathbone or Jeremy Brett?
The Rider is an amazing read.
Pattern Recognition is also very, very good as is Spook Country, his latest. Gibson's prose is just so nice to read.
Recently finished the new Ian M. Banks (Matter) and am now halfway through a history of the blues.

I think that Molly Millions/Sally Shears is worth an epic essay. I saw recently that Neuromancer is about to go into production with Hayden Christensen set to play Case. NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Feck me, would the file studios please leave Neuromancer alone and stop buggering about with a bloody good book that's already been Matrix'd? A Hayden Christensen effort has Johnny Mnemonic written all over it.
If you're planning a dissertation on Gibson, might be worth going for something on his cyberpunk trilogy - a mate of mine did that at Uni and got a first for it, so the material's good enough.

if you've not already seen it check out the film of factotum. i think it's superb, great performance by matt dillon. only read bukowski's short stories, so not sure how it compares to the book though...
