I have vague aspirations to go under 20 seconds, but I couldn't give a fuck about winning.
Unless there are chocolate prizes.
If you go under 20 I'll buy you some really nice chocs

You should get into coaching :)
(PS. I'm in more of a milk/white phase at the moment)

funny you should mention that. I did think about becoming a sports psychologist.
milk/white, noted. I've found a place that does really nice ones.

If this is the way the team is now to be picked, then fair enough. Although I'm not very happy about it.
I'll just have to punch in a serious time on the have a go rollers so it's obvious that a mistake has been made in team selection ;0p

I don't understand all the angst:
there's a have-a-go thing as well isn't there?
you lot are going getting pulverised by the might of the Moving Target team.
Charlie = sub 21 secs at Rollapaluza X and Raphapaluza II. Edit: actually sub 20 secs. Die, fgss, die.

i wonder what chris hoys time would be? i mean it's not about power but he's not bad at spinning :-)
-
• #208
It's just the fact that for the first couple of weeks of trying to get a team together I was the only mug willing to be part of the team. Plus it took me a lot of sweat and tears to get a passout from the missus!!!
But as you say Bill, we're only going to get tonked on the night...

Not sure, but for an idea:
At the first or second messenger roller race back in 2000, Rob Jeffries and Greg Tipper put on a demo race.
Greg and Rob were A cat sprinters, and South London Roller Race League regulars.
I think, but I can't remember exactly, that the quickest times were low 22s.
They busted out 17 secs. Without a warm-up, and in jeans and trainers.

was that on a different set of rollers? didn't i read somewhere that some were faster than others?
-
• #211
That was the Bec rollers. Whether or not they were slower or faster than the Rollapaluza set (prob a lot slower - much smaller drums), the two guys were 5 secs or nearly 20% quicker than the best of the rest.

my money (if i was a betting man) would be on Brighton or Rollapaluza team to win.

One thing is for sure:
the team comp will be a lot more competitive than at any previous raphapaluza. There are at least 6 guys who will have go under 20 secs.
Records might well fall!

i just want to see london cycling clubs beaten (not rollapaluza cc of course)! BMMF went off around surrey hill this morning for some much needed hardening up. hope his health improves in the comin days, he should do alright.

Well, it's a scientifically proven FACT that roller-racers race faster if lots of drunk people are screaming their name from a distance of not greater than 2 metres!

I think it's out of order if Sam isn't on the team (in light of his consistent enthusiasm, the travel/domestic logistics he's mentioned, and his early selection).
And unless shedding all the viral wotsits from my neuromuscular system has an unprecedented effect on my leg speed, I think you'd be better off putting your money on Charlie (obvious natural), or the Brighton Boys...
... except if a new out-of-the-saddle category is unveiled, and then I would use everyone to clean my kitchen lino.

OOTS cat sounds like an interesting thing. I had my bmx out yesterday :)
-
• #219
I'd also want the front wheels raised, and a taller gear...
-
• #220
but it doesn't matter on the rollers, does it?
there's no resistance as such , so no need to get OOTS
my snap out the gate ain't too shabby either ;)
-
• #221
i think it's out of order that a competing team member is trying to influence the selection policy of another team.

And a resistance unit, and...
I think I'm suggesting a hillclimb, only without the shitty weather.

I'd be up for that. Don't forget the extra 4 stone I have over you is irrelevant on the rollers :)
Neither to win, nor come DFL. And to enjoy the atmosphere and drink ourselves silly.
