^^ I personally don't bother with a bloom for Aeropress, just pour straight to 220ml (or whatever you're weighing to... certainly don't just do it by eye), and give it a quick stir. Been using 3 paper filters recently (a la Prufrock) and it does seem to give a cleaner brew. Screw those on (pre-rinsed), pull top down till the hissing stops, give it a spin, flip over after 1 min and press over 30 secs.
Must be a reason the best cafes stick to papers, when metal would save so much waste...
Still generally prefer V60.

^ 3 papers? nice but pricey...

Yup! I don't really get through many so I don't mind. Probably use Aeropress about two or three times a week.
Saw on Twitter that Prufrock were talking about experimenting with cotton wool...

My friend Mig will be there, representing Atkinsons (Lancaster based Coffee Importer).
https://www.thecoffeehopper.com/I was gonna so, annoyingly a client has to rearrange a job so I wont be going. Boo :-(

I went down today, it was crazy busy! Much bigger than last year. I always feel like I miss a heap of stuff when I go. Managed to grab a coffee from Mission Coffee Works, which was lovely. Would've liked to have caught some of the brewer's cup tomorrow, but I've got to work. Boooo.

mrs_socks, I had a shot of Red Brick from Bulldog Edition the other day, gotta be one of the nicest espressos I've ever had. Fuckin love the EK43. One of the best things to happen to coffee in the last 5 years.
-
• #9584
Oh, thanks! What day was it? The EK is great, you can get some bloody lovely coffee out of it. (To be fair, you can get a pretty ace shot off the Vulcano with that Strada!) I'm really enjoying the most recent Red Brick, although I already miss the Bella Vista, that was lovely too. Looking forward to our new house espresso, a Colombian microlot roasted just for us! Supposed to be even creamier than the Bella Vista!

Saturday I think, chatted to the guy with glasses about it, I tried a shot from the Vulcano after and while still tasty it was definitely more like a shot from a Robur etc.
House microlot! Sweet.
Cupped some of the El Mirador last week, outstanding. Enjoying that and some Barn stuff at the mo.

Ah, I was off last weekend, sounds like you were talking to James. That El Mirador is ace, we're getting that on filter soon. So much good coffee about at the moment! Had a great brew of Workshop's Sitio Canaa the other day, was surprised how much I liked it.

Someone recommended a Gaggia repair man south of the river but I can't for the life of me remember his name/email address - can anyone help? (Not for me this time, mercifully, though I'd be reluctant to ever use Philips again.)☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️

The place I buy redbrick had no retail bags today, I was happy to go without but they scooped ~ 60g into a cup ftom the wholesale bag and gave it me to keep me going until retail arrives Weds.
I then got free soup and a babycino for M at my next coffee stop.
Independent coffee shops ftw. -

Something about the boom in coffee shops on BBC2 at 9pm. I think it's bout Costa etc rather than the indies but will be interesting I think. But then I like that type of thing.

This: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b040v3ld
Looking at the big three and how they came to sell their super sized, super sweet, super expensive, ultra boring "coffee" in their uniformly designed stores, all over the world.

Just wow.
Do you fix Gaggias? ;)
-
• #9599
My Gaggia Classic has stopped working.
I accidentally ran it when empty and now I get no water through the group at all. The steam wand works fine.
I can hear the pump working and see water coming back down a little pipe into the tank. Limited amount of googling tells me to worry about my solenoids?
Any experts on here?
After our chat on saturday, you were thinking it could be scale, when was it last descaled? If not for a long time might be worth running pickling vinegar to descale the boiler if there is any scale as this will have a go at descaling it.
Looking here:
http://www.partsguru.com/user/Parts%20dagram%20ER0182_Rev01.pdfDon't think the fusibble link is gone as then the steam bit wouldn't work.
Check number 17 (coffee boiler temp sensor) is operating. You will need a cuircuit tester ;) Think it is open circuit (high resistance) till the water is up to temperature then it operates (low resistance allows current to flow)
May be look at 21 to 25, its a philips screwdriver and allen key to check that if there is a blockage of some scale in the output valve/tube.
The rebuild kit of a couple of o rings and fibre washers, so you can take it all apart and see if there are any blockages. The kit is the same as the boiler in the baby gaggia so we can chop and change to see what parts are faulty.

I have a g105 that doesn't work and should get round to having a look at. Where did you get the parts from?
