^airlock?

• #9553
Yeah, may be an airlock.
Open the steam tap, switch to steam mode and also press the brew switch; do you get water pumping out the steam wand?
-
• #9554
Yeah I had this happen whilst de-scaling. Was properly gutted but first google suggested an air-block
-
• #9555
Yep done that and got water from steam wand. Filled a cup and it didn't clear the block.

Anyone going to the coffee festival next weekend? Thursday's the only day I can make it unfortunately, anyone else?

Forgot to get a ticket. Do you think there are some left?

This thread isn't nerdy enough.

I have ordered a Porlex from Japan, hopefully it goes through customs without import charges.
£28 all in seems to be a good price for it.

I think you could be right about the three-way solenoid then.
You've proven that the pump actually works. I'd maybe have a look and see if there is a way in which you could disassemble the three-way.

My MadeByKnock Hausgrind arrived today, pulled about 6 shots dialling it in (haven't got the grind perfect yet but I got bored).
Build quality and feel in the hand is amazing, grinds 14g of beans in 50 seconds so much quicker than my old Porlex mini.
Moog, Have you had much more opportunity to use this since you bought it?
The burrs on my Porlex cracked and this might be a nice replacement/upgrade..

One or two times a day since I got it. I can't really taste a difference in a good shot from the Hausgrind and a good shot from the Porlex but it's much more reliable and considerably quicker to grind.
The waiting list is quite long for them so you probably won't be able to get your hands on one for a while (although I think there will be some for sale at the London Coffee Festival).

Coffee friends:
My Rancilio Silvia appears to be playing up. I haven't used it for a very long time and it would seem that it isn't heating water up any more. I haven't had the chance to properly look at it but straight off the bat does anyone have any idea what it might be/is it repairable?
On a related note, I've been thinking for a while now that I might want to sell it since I use it so rarely. If it is an issue that requires a lot of effort to repair, I wouldn't be averse to shifting it for a heavily discounted price... Would anyone be interested in a fixer upper?

What was the consensus on the metal Aeropress filter? Good? Bad?
-
• #9566
I believe the thought was that it was not definitively better/worse, just different. Seem to recall someone saying that it would allow more oils through than the paper?
-
• #9567
^ I'm pretty sure Hatbeard uses one?
Anyway when I asked they review was that it was good. I just bought 3 packs of filters - one at home, work and in the bag.

Looking at picking up a G105 - is there any issues I should be looking at?

Hello coffee people, I've been modding a Gaggia Classic and need to find a portafilter pressure gauge to check my OPV adjustments - anyone on here got one I could borrow before I embarrass myself over on the specialist forums?
-
• #9570
I think I do somewhere. never got round to using it though.
-
• #9571
That's exactly why I've avoided buying one - I'm normally pretty quick to fire on ebay for most things but that really seems like a one shot deal.
If you manage to find it do you fancy lending it out? happy to compensate your time in beer.

• #9572
sure. I have the pm from the guy who i bought it off on coffee forums after payment so i think it's been filed away at home, I'll dig it out in the next few days.
the easiest place to grab it would be when I'm at work (london wall) unless you happen to live in SW london.
-
• #9573
I'm all over town for work so London Wall is good - and I live in Norbury Sw16 so can collect from you SW if that's easier.
-
• #9574
cool. will drop you a pm once I find it.

Cool, I'll stick with papers. Just found this method looks good:
http://stumptowncoffee.com/brew-guides/aeropress/
My Gaggia Classic has stopped working.
I accidentally ran it when empty and now I get no water through the group at all. The steam wand works fine.
I can hear the pump working and see water coming back down a little pipe into the tank. Limited amount of googling tells me to worry about my solenoids?
Any experts on here?
