  • Just discovered my new fave drink in work; shot of espresso, 4 x Candarel, top up with skimmed milk. Kind of iced-latte without the ice.

  • ^^ not trolling.

    ^ trolling, surely!

Current status: Hasbean Nicaraguan Lemoncillo "Funkier" is proving to be pretty funky. General impression is, lots of stewed strawberry / strawberry jam. Likes a good ten minutes brewing in the Aeropress.

  • Nah, it's lovely, takes about 5 seconds on the Nespresso too

  • Sorry I meant semi-skimmed milk

  • Nespresso isn't actually terrible.

  • It's amazing! And when you're adding a glass of cold milk and sweeteners it wouldn't make much diff anyway

  • Anyone got suggestions for a decent quality medium size stovetop?

I have a couple Bialettis (moka mini and mini express) that I bought in Italy. I want a bigger one though and Bialetti retailers seem pretty thin on the ground.

Mail order/online shopping required as I'm in Glasgow not London.

  • John Lewis online have them. They come in loads of different sizes so it might be hlepful to see them to judge size. 1 cup Italian ≠ 1 cup American (aeropress etc) I think. Wholefoods Market shop in Giffnock probably have some in stock. Independent kitchen ware type places too.

  • Cheers, I'd looked at the John Lewis mobile site and only found one but the full site has more. Think I'll pop in to the store and see what they have. I have a really cheap one that's the right size so would be good to match that.

After lots of years with the 'standard' Bialetti in various sizes, I now use a 'Cilio' one.
    It's neat.
Could not find a picture online but mine gets wider at the base,
so it takes up more heat.
It's also my first stainless steel moka pot, and coffee does taste a bit better compared to Bialetti.

  • This is it:

  • In fairness Bialetti do nice steel ones as well. But for TK is right, for moka pots steel > alu

  • There's an italian deli on Warwick Way near Victoria that stocks mokas IIRC.

  • Where can I get a decent hand grinder in either Kensington this lunch time, or somewhere around Stoke Newington tomorrow morning?

Fred and Fran in Stoke Newington might sell porlexes, not too sure though. Last time I was in there they had aeropresses and various other bits and bobs, so you may be in luck

  • ^ah! Great, 5 minutes from my front door!

You must live 5 minutes from my front door too then!

Have you been to that cafe? Amazing coffee and food, but a true haven for yummy mummies and thus pricey.

    Duly noted. Thanks.

  • Yo. Currently putting out feelers for a new job. Going through the usual channels, but thought I'd apply to the forum hive mind in case anyone hears and whispers of opportunity...

  • Pact are hiring...

  • Winner, thanks Wayne.

Not sure if they deliver/you've carried this out.

But they're around the corner from us, if you wanted me to check/sort anything for you.

  • Just got my bag from Pact (clearly I need a bigger letterbox as there was no way it was fitting through. Part of the 5% wahey).

It grinds really fine - or at least finer than the (admittedly rubbish beans I've been using) - so I ended up making a ristoretto, but it is very tasty indeed :)

For me, it's more a matter of them each making uniquely different coffees, though a part of that is of course due to the aluminum pot having the pressure cap.
Don't ask about the missing lid.

  • Hello y'all coffee peoples. I believe this is the place to ask this question. I am thinking of getting a coffee machine for espressos of the coffee. I currently use a aeropress and its good and that but not the same as a 'propa' coffee.

Is the Gaggia Classic the one? Its expensive but thinking of getting one second hand. I want to spend under £100, and not to into the Clooney Nespresso thing (but have heard its surprisingly good).
Any suggestions of a little home machine would be appreciated. cheers

  • Have you got a decent grinder? In a way, it's more important.
