@ withered,
decided to omit that as I didn't want to taint his character anymore than was required..

Popped into Federation yesterday, the decaf is ground on one of these little babies... Tiny footprint, ceramic burrs and it ground me a very nice cup of java... Programmable dosing and a miriad of grind settings...
Anyone got one? £290 (inc a portafilter holder) is a lot of cash, any hook-ups?this is on my shopping list along with the classic when my insurance cheque arrives, although everywhere I've seen it for sale it's £290+vat so £350(!). so annoying that all the coffee retailers leave vat off their prices.
although you have a decent accountant if i recall so maybe that doesn't matter.

New to this thread but my fav cup of London coffee is at Present, 140 Shoreditch High St.
This is Prufrock, isn't it? I've not been in. Should do, it's close to work! (Do they have siphon? haha)

filter coffees tend to be stronger than espresso (for the same weight of bean being used), as more caffeine is extracted with the longer exposure to water. espresso is just more concentrated

I know, it was the reaction that made me laugh!

Virtually everyone I know who has an opinion about espresso says they can't sleep after just one, yet I see them waltzing around with 16 oz double doubles.
Sheep.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a coffee place in Crystal Palace that is open on wednesday morning? The only coffee place I've seen recommended on here in CP is Bambinos and won't be open :(

Anyone checked out one of these? Bean-to-cup for under £300.
Have a classic at home. Bought one of these for the office but they are absolutely shite. Leaky, inconsistent. Avoid:
Considering another classic but sometimes just cannot be arsed with the whole faff at work and making coffee rounds for 3 others. Amazon have refunded the above offender and thinking bean to cup is the way forward but can't justify paying £600 for the privelege. Anyone checked out this one? Cheers for any comments.

Tempted to get one of these http://www.hasbean.co.uk/collections/brewers/products/aerobie-aeropress-coffee-espresso-maker
Not exactly a thing of beauty though. In fact it wouldn't look out of place in a school chemistry lab.

we have two in the office. they're pretty good and are run at a high duty cycle. the descale light is pretty much always on but they do a decent job.
grind is adjusted with a dial under the bean cover, don't use the milk frother much so not sure how useful it is.
for espresso shots it manages a reasonable crema.
the nozzles tend to accumulate coffee solids but that's probably just a poor cleaning regimen.

Great advice. Thanks a lot.

the aeropress doesn't make something that tastes like espresso, though - more like strong, smooth filter coffee - even with lots of coffee and little water. good, nevertheless..

This depends on when you drink it - Just brewed it does, but the caffeine boils away so after a while it's not so strong

How long do you boil your coffee?

Er...a you sure about that? Caffeine melts at 235 deg C but oddly boils at 178 deg C. Once that caffeine is in your pot, its goin nowhere sugar.
