tomatoe, where are you coming from? I'd personally rather not go there as rides start or end up there ALL THE TIME, plus there are so many great coffee establishments on our list to get to. I'm sure we can help you find your way to the start.

Any chance of setting up a specific thread for the ride?
I'd rather not have to wade thro pages of fookin lists and polls and arseknowswhat regarding a ride
This thread has been a really interesting resource and knowledgebase on coffee tings and it would be a shame to dilute that with gumpff about a ride

Made my first coffee with the new grinder, which after a couple of adjustments, got me a grind which was close enough to what I usually use.
Feel suitably wired at this point, got to say it's not half as bitter as the pre ground coffee I was using previously, which sat in the fridge until required.

That stuff's pretty good, not tried it before. It has a slight bitterness I thought but in a good way, like dark chocolate kind of bitter

What beans did you dose Corny with again?

Greetings coffee fans, I'm in need of recommendations for a decent grinder to use with a Gaggia Classic.
Help? -

Porlex or Porlex mini
unless you have the space/budget for a commercial grinder then I have no clue

Porlex or Porlex mini

Ftfy. Porlex Mini is fine for one or two shots a day. If making much more I'd imagine it'd become a chore to use.

Quality list of swanky, trendy hipster hang outs of which only about half of them serve decent espresso.
Semi-agree with you, big grumpy chainring. I'd definitely swipe off Goswell/Bermondsey for example. Out of interest, what would be your top ten? Not for a ride, just in general.

This, especially for finer grinds like espresso and Turkish.

Sorry I should have mentioned I'm looking for an automatic rather than a hand grinder.

iberital mc2 (the doserless version) - cheapest decent grinder available (anything cheaper is not worth it)

This.
Or, do as I did, and buy a commercial grinder later. I had to get one when I broke my wrist after a crash. You can get a bargain if you keep an eye on eBay for a couple of weeks. £50 should secure something decent.

I have a Cunill which is decent.

Cheers all, I've made the classic spend on machine and underbudget for the grinder mistake.
The mc2 is a shade over what I'd intended to pay but judging by the reviews is a very sensible purchase.
I may also pick up a Porlex Mini for the pre-clubrun sunday morning coffee so as not to wake the Other. -

I see that Happy Donkey have the MC5 grinder on offer £192 with a bunch of freebies.

I haven't found 10 that do espresso good enough not to need me to purchase something sweet to accompany it. I only have 4 on that list so far.

New filter basket and tamper from HappyDonkey arrived this afternoon...I am a very happy man; the tamper is great quality for the price, so goodbye shitty plastic gaggia!

Don't forget the VAT, once you've added the carriage as well it doesn't half add up...

Thanks for the advice.

I grind a Porlex mini full of beans each morning. It's not such an ordeal...

That's because you can't fit many beans in to it :)
Meeting at LMNH would be good as i'm not a local and not got much of a clue how to get to these places by road....
