  • Cafetiere with pre-ground Sainsbury coffee is what he has after lunch and dinner.

  • Without the mess and the coffee being over stewed.

pretty much, unless you forget the filter paper, or wait too long before plunging... #fails

he'll notice the difference for sure

    ^This.

  • just been followed on twitter by another coffee co...

"eightpointnine eightpointnine we deliver artisan hand-blended coffee by postinthe UK. Try us for free with code: 8PT9FREE"

    anyone tried?

  • ^ Just looked on their site - looks a bit gimmicky, the coffees are likely to be your standard Brasil Santos, Colombia Supremo, Kenya AA etc, not on a par with the coffees from the top roasters but worth a punt for free. £5.89 for 150g aint cheap if you were paying for it.

Twitter username? (PM if you like)

  • I just ordered a freebie, and sent it round the office, figure we could get a few free bags out of it, even if it's not up to much, it's free.

  • so do you need to take out the subscription, use the free code and then cancel?

  • Yeah, pretty much. I did the same with the Graze boxes ordered 2 and then cancelled. Should be put in the budget living thread, making use of freebies.

  • how soon after placing the order do i need to cancel to avoid getting the next batch?

  • I've ordered mine for the end of the week, the day it is delivered I will cancel, which as far as I can tell will mean I'm not charged.

  • this project might of interest to some of you

they raised the last $15,000 in two days

  • That looks great, always thought a thermoblock could be a good solution if it was properly engineered. Where did the publicity come from for that kind of response?

  • Viral, all you need is 180 people pledging 300 bucks each. I was at a conference last week where they had a very similar case study, citing it as a serious route to market for engineering innovation.

They have a funky place in the states called Techshop, a membership based DIY place, kinda like joining a gym in that you pay a monthly subscription but instead of the rowing machine, you play with lathes, welders, milling machines etc.

Get an idea > design it on computer > prototype it at Techshop > seed-fund it using kickstarter > dominate

    Or something like that

  • What a great facility and concept. I'm going to see how the bank account is shaping up after christmas - very tempted to go with the $200 pledge and get a machine.

Off to see if I can find some more info. Will the rewards still stand even though they're through the target?

There is something like that in London

Not sure - smallprint is key I suppose

What, like techshop? Would like to know more.

  • Now this intrigues me

  • Cona Vacuum / Siphon brewer. Nice to watch, can make a very clear detailed brew but very tricky to get right. Forget the spirit burner and get a small butane burner or the stovetop version.

The Hario version with cloth filter seems popular these days. Need to keep the filter submerged in water in the fridge, and pay mucho hipster tax.

  • Never seen one running and quite liked the idea of watching the coffee go up and down.

i believe mostly reddit and the brian's dcily blog

yeah, it looks well interesting. i totally don't need an espresso machine but am really keen to see how good their tech is.

yep. they will still stand within the remaining time. bet they had no idea how good the response would be. wonder how they will make them all by march 2012?

there are risks though with kickstarter. they may get the funding but for some reason can not complete the project. still, probably worth the bet.

I wonder what spec you can ask for with an $1000 investment?

more info and ama (ask me anything) with the creator on reddit

    dcily post

  • I tried Square Mile's Red Brick t'other day. Flat white tings. I'm too clueless to gives notes on it but my mouth told my brain it was yummy.

  • they've changed the blend on it - I must admit I didn't like the initial 3 bean blend but the new 2 bean blend is miles [sorry] better
