  • Great catching up dude, glad you liked Prufrock and your new toys. I bloody love their crazy coffee machines. Think I might invest in one of those aeropresses.

This was what I was banging on about though:

Though the aero press seems way better any a quarter of the price.

I have both and I love my handpresso. I've had it in my studio churning out 4 or 5 espressos a day for the last 6 months. However with my Pavoni on the way it's about to get relegated.

  • Did you bother with the intense filter thing, or can you regulate stuff via the grind?

(intending to get one, once I can find a new UCL contract that doesn't involve working afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays, therefore needing to make my lunchtime shot at work rather than home)

  • Nope, just fiddle the grind & tamp

  • Thanks, that's good to know.

  • Whilst I've got your attention - are you just using a spoon or the handle of the handpresso to tamp, or have you splashed out on some fancy limited run tamper?

  • in the vid u can see me tamp with a tub of lithium grease

  • Ah, can't watch streams on this piece of shit work computer. I'll check it out later. Nice improvistion :)

  • Sounds nice... Am really enjoying the Bolivian Juana Mamani Huanca from Monmouth through the Aeropress. Very bright top end and a rich fruity after-taste..

Rumour has it they are expecting a new batch of African beans very soon

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe arriving on the truck tomorrow. Probably do a few trial roasts next week to nail the profile and hopefully in the shops end of the week. Hopefully.

  • You know how simple it is to make an aeropress coffee that after a while you're on auto-pilot when you make it.

Well sometimes that auto pilot might forget to put a filter in the holder and seeing as it likes to blindy follow trends use the upside down method of making coffee.

sometimes when that's happened you flip the aero press to put it on top of the cup and in doing so dump half a container of near boiling water and about £0.75p worth of monmouth coffee all over the kitchen worktop in your office.

sometimes your colleagues will see it happen and laugh very loudly at you as they always thought you were a pretentious arsehole for not drinking the instant like the rest of the monkeys.

sometimes you hate the mornings where you haven't drunk any coffee yet.

  • kill them all.. In the face

  • ^ with the aeropress

using some unknown coffee from a local deli until an order drops in, getting a small crema which is unusual, usually none in aeropress. it's a finer grind (pre ground) so maybe that helps?

Get a Mypressi Twist or Handpresso then they'll think you're even more of a cunt.

Unless they like coffee, then you'll be their best buddy

  • I picked up some seriously good coffee yesterday, Square Mile Costa Rican. Shit, I think it's giving me highs.

  • Look what the postman brought me this morning..

  • was that the one that went on the bay for 365?

    come back with an alias

  • Anyone have any broadcast quality SD footage of Monmouth shop exteriors? I'm talking about roasters in this coffee trends story and although I use Union as my example (awesome footage of their factory) along with a good chat from Jeremy Torz, I need to talk about smaller local roasters to get around all this undue prominence lark - Monmouth is an obvious one as I've got an interview with Square Mile boss dog James. Though bombcup will probably set the lawyers on me :)

  • was that the one that went on the bay for 365?

    Nope, that was an Elektra

  • ahhhh, the eagle on top had me confuzzled

    what's that one then?

  • Pretty is what it is.

  • La Pavoni

  • Ah, my machine is back on. Need moor beenz.

  • I've been using a Zassenhaus hand grinder for a while now to grind coffee for a french press. It's great for a coarse grind like this but I'm wanting to use it for my stovetop and for a V60 filter. When grinding this fine it takes around 10 minutes to get the coffee through.

For this reason I'm looking for an electric grinder. The two I'm looking at now are the Krups GVX 231 and the Dualit 75002. I'm wanting to spend less than £50 but plan to buy used off eBay as opposed to new.

    Any advice?

  • Any suggestions for espresso in Amsterdam? Got a few names of places from Toomuchcoffee but wondered it there was any experience from the ever trusty LFGSS coffee thread team...
