  • london coffee festival is offering free tickets to tweed run entrants... the promo code is "TWEEDR"

  • My new coffee corner is finished

La Spaziale Vivaldi Mk.II (fully plumbed in) with a Mahlkonig Vario grinder.
I've been dialing in the shots this afternoon and it is fucking brilliant having it all plumbed in. Loads of very cool stuff on the machine that I haven't even got into using yet.

So........this all means I have a Rancillio Silvia in good condition that will be up for sale soon, PM me if interested. I have a grinder sourced through Bombcup that will be going as well for not very much dollah at all.

Oh and if anyone needs a grinder for the office I have a huge commercial one that came with the Vivaldi, not sure of the value of it yet but I'm sure BC will come through as usual.

  • I'm very much interested in the grinder. What is it?

  • Also interested in the grinder.

  • Which one?

  • The one you used with the Silvia. Was it an MC2?

  • No, its a Brasilia grinder that was used commercially. It it had a large hopper on the front which I modified to fleetness which made it significantly smaller. It's not pretty but it does work well.

  • Cool, give me a shout when you want rid of it.

Also how well does that baratza work? It's the programmable one, right? Are you able to switch easily between two grind settings? I'm trying to work out if there's a way I can switch between espresso and pour over with as few machines as possible...

  • Silvia one as well if Dave pulls out, how much for the commercial one out of interest?

  • Not sure on the commercial grinder, Bombcup said he thinks it probably a rebadged Macap which is similar in quality to a Mazzer.

  • We're having a fund raising event at Notes Music and Coffee this Sunday 10th April for victims of the Japanese Earthquake.

Please come along and donate, enter the competition and win prizes...

  • Spread the word!

  • ^You could aim for a rising sun; milk first then aim to float a perfect circle of espresso on top, could even be pretty red with the right roast.

  • Anyone familiar with this outfit http://www.fastshopping.eu/en/prodotto/dettaglio/63866

I'm ready to take the plunge myself on a gaggia classic.
    Thanks.

  • Been borrowing Big Daddy W's Mypressi and have tried a couple of different things, with ok results both times so far:

Yesterday I pulled a double with some square mile, used water just off the boil with no preheating of the apparatus, the shots had decent crema with plenty of flavour.

Today, I tried the "coarse" basket, which only has a single pinhole in it, with some shit supermarket caffetiere ground stuff just to see what would happen.
It pulled an OK shot, lots of crema again, slightly bitter and not much punch, but nothing to complain about. You would be thankful for it if you were out at work and struggling!

It was slightly cool though, despite my preheating of the lower bowl by puring boiling water through it first before assembling. Cooler than the shots using the fine grind and basket without anything being preheated, weird.

I do however, have concerns about the nitrogen, I used to drink draught guiness which played havoc with my stomach because of the nitrogen used to gas it, and I feel a similar after effect from this. Maybe it's nowt...

  • I just had my first cup from my first hasbean delivery (Jailbreak) and I can confirm that it is, indeed, delicious.

  • I has bean enjoying Colombian Las Cochas for the last few weeks. Lovely stuff.

  • Anyone know where I can pick up machine descaler in the EC1 area?

  • Just taxed my parent's old De'Longhi machine. A minnow up against some of the set-ups here, but I am now the proud quaffer of hot little 'ccinos care of my Ethiopian friends.

  • I just had my first cup from my first hasbean delivery (Jailbreak) and I can confirm that it is, indeed, delicious.

I'm enjoying some home roasted jailbreak right now.

  • I finally got round to ordering from Hasbean. Have to say, after all I've read, I was pretty underwhelmed with the Jailbreak; doesn't seem to matter how I make it, it always comes out tasting weak and wishy washy, without any real flavours. I'll keep at it because I can only assume I'm doing something wrong. Love their Brazil Fazenda Divino EspĂrito Santo Catuai though.

Should have a delivery of Magnus Backstedt's coffee coming today!

  • Enjoying the last of the Square Mile Winter Blend...

It's been a tasty winter, but roll on Spring.
