quite good memories of time spent in Singapore in the early 90s. Must have changed a lot. Weather seemed to be the same all year round, apart from November, when it was a bit hotter and a bit wetter.

First dialled in blooming espresso on the Gaggiuino. A 30 second bloom without losing pressure.

So fun trying different profiles.

Love the way it sounds like an old motorbike starting up. How was the shot? I would have assumed that the water in the bloom making it all the way through and into the shot would be undesirable, but I guess that’s necessary for the puck to be saturated/wet throughout.

Correct! Those drops are a negative, but it's more of a negative to saturate the puck slower according to the Decent guy. My grinder's steps and retention are so big I take what I can get for now.
The shot was nice, but my threshold till now for home espresso has just been whether I wince or not. The shots with this are all good. Maybe temp control made the biggest difference as my grind is off more often than not.
What's the best is trying different profiles and noticing the differences. It's like a coffee version of a posh box of chocolates.

Ha, I know what you mean. It felt like getting anything even vaguely in the right region took longer than anything else in the learning process. Once you’re there, the dialling in is relatively straightforward (to a degree, I don’t take it to the astronomical levels of precision some do).

Good reconditions for a hand grinder - had a porlex for years but can’t seem to find it after multiple house moves. Heading away for a couple of weeks and want to take the Aeropress

Timemore c2 max £55
1zpresso q2 £95
KINGrinder k0, k1, k2 £55-£65I really rate my c2, but the capacity is a bit small, worth getting the max IMO.
The 1zpresso is very highly regarded but more expensive.
I’ve not used the KINGrinder but they’re reviewing really well and people seem to rate them. Apparently a bit better than the Timemore at the same price point, which is remarkable considering how decent the Timemore is - a big step up from the porlex. -

Amazing - was looking at the Timemore but will check out the other options too

Alternatively I have a non-brand ceramic burr hand grinder which you can have :)

not as nice as the options listed above but fine for aeropress

Shout outs for 1zpresso. Have had my JX-Pro for three years now and have used it at least once a day basically every day, has not missed a beat. It will outlive me. I recently handled a Timemore C2 and honestly, the difference in build quality was quite startling. The Q2 has the same construction as the JX-Pro. Easily worth the extra over the Timemore IMO.
-
• #24463
Which is fair with the JX pro being 2.5 times the price ;)
-
• #24464
As my comment said, the Q2 has the same construction as the JX-Pro, and it is not 2.5x the price :)

Haha I realised this upon rereading your post. I guess I’m just very protective over the Timemore!

Thanks for all the feedback and the kind offer @Tenderloin
I had a bit of credit on my Amazon account so have ordered a Timemore c2. Not planning on using it daily as the Wilfa Svart is faultless for filter and Aeropress at home but it will be nice to be able to enjoy decent coffee on the road

Did I mention that the plastic trim piece came off my Kinu? It did and it’s annoying.

The thumbstop?
The plastic knob on top of the handle came off mine but glued it back and not happened since. -

No, the skirt that the grounds hopper wears

On the Simplicity? Same model I've got, did it refit alright?

Anyone got any Worthing coffee recommendations? Somewhere to drink good coffee and preferably buy some as I came ill prepared and I've run out
-
• #24472
No, not yet- I can’t get the o-ring seal to pop into place.

Worthing
There must be a Small Batch there?
Edit: looked - there isn't and they've downsized their number of cafes since I moved away. But they still have the roastery in portslade which, if you have a bike, is a nice cycle from worthing and well worth it.https://www.smallbatchcoffeeroasters.co.uk/blogs/locations/wellington-house
Sad to hear: https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/23398471.small-batch-coffee-closes-three-branches-brighton-hove/

Thanks mate, I'll pop over to the roastery

^ Had my flask for over a decade. Done a few goes around the world. Only now is the design failing. Wonder if I could get it laser etched (at least the three iced gems/pavilion bits).
