  • I guess single bean is the new single origin?

  • Well, after about 25 years one of my coffee plants has decided to flower and grow beans!

    ..so cool! 🙂

  • Seems like the Timemore should be dispatched this month - faster than I expected with Kickstarter.

  • single bean

Will have to brewed via a Bripe, surely @jdp ?

  • A friend got one from Sigma coffee. Paid almost double the kickstarter after shipping and taxes though! Happy to sit and wait for mine

  • Our single bean policy allows us to uniquely express the terroir of the soil we use in the lowland growing regions of Norfolk, removing the need for high altitude plantations but allowing use to facilitate the growth of potentially award winning coffee. #4thwave

  • I'll send a link to you later with our SingleBeanMicroBrewer (TM) once I have got the Kickstarter page sorted.

  • Just grabbed a pasty and a coffee meal deal from west Cornwall pasty Co before jumping on a train at Waterloo.

It was by far the worst coffee I've ever had in my life, I've got a decent tolerance for shit coffee but this makes A&E waiting room vending machine coffee taste like the best hipster single origin banger you've ever had. Truly incredible.

  • their pastys are shit too

I can tell you haven't had the coffee at my work canteen!

  • I didn't know this was a thing!

Very cool and a lot cheaper than a Decent. Excited to hear you're experience with it

  • @jdp are you going to go down the luwak route and feed it to your cat?
I've heard once you retrieve the bean, Costa will pay handsomely for the remaining scat, which they then pass off as coffee

  • lots of positive noises from them that I will continue to ignore until I am clutching my 078s

  • @PedallingSquare Will do for sure. It is slightly more expensive than I expected. All the little bits from AliExpress do add up, and along with 3D printing it's about £150. The flow rate is very tricky to calibrate, but with built in scales that should be less important hopefully. The developers are quite secretive, but they're working a new type of screen & software with wifi and easier profile customisation which sounds fun.

@thanksbye and @darius I'm in the spreadsheet for Batch A, are you?

  • I checked with Tiddles and he implied that it would be a 'cold day in hell' before he gave Costa any of his scat unless he could place it directly on to the worktop in full view of their customers such is his dislike of their "coffee"...

  • Not a chance it's worse.

@HatBeard perfectly acceptable, especially when you haven't had breakfast. Plus anything would taste like fine dining after dishwasher coffee.

  • Yep batch A. I was backer 2400ish so fortunately getting it soon in theory….

  • Thanks for the recommendations y'all
Moccamaster looks simple. Sage good for fiddling. Both reassuringly spenny!
V60 server looks to be the ipi tombe of simplicity but prefer an insulted giraffe/jug. I don't drink my coffee that quickly...

  • the setup for my sage with the matching smart grinder pro is

press button to set number of cups on grinder with the canister attachment in place and grind
put paper cone in machine and pour coffee in, click into place
fill the water tank to the level that matches no of cups I want to brew
press start and wait about 3 minutes.

coffee stays hot in the insulated carafe for 4+ hours (but quality of the remaining brew drops over time after a couple of hours but is perfectly serviceable filter).

works very well for making a pot at the start of the day and being able to top up caffeine levels with a cup as desired until late lunchtime (when I try to stop drinking coffee lest I bet awake all night).

  • In case anybody was invested in my random overflows on the Precision Brewer, I committed the cardinal sin of trying two things at the same time and dialed back the grind a bit and also set up a custom brewing process on the brewer giving me a longer bloom and slower flow rate. It tastes about 90-95% as good and I've had no grinds in the thermos, but I have noticed a much flatter bed. Not quite using a complicated pouring method on a V60 levels of flat bed, but definitely a much flatter bed. I've been running these 2 changes for a while now to give it enough time to see if the issue reoccurs.

I'll give it until September and if there's no further issues I think I'll try keeping the custom brew and grinding a little finer again.

  • It arrives!

  • How is it? Did you get the duo version?

  • Yep, the Duo. It arrived today at 5pm and I’m afraid that’s too late for me to be drinking espresso- but I’m very much looking forward to tomorrow morning.

Build quality is excellent, and they’ve added a few details like a retracting cord (which I don’t recall my Zero having, but that said it’s been in a shipping container for months now).

  • Dialling things in this morning before going mountain biking- it’s so much better than hand grinding! I think I need to improve my distribution and tamp as I sometimes get channeling and sometimes not, despite everything ostensibly being the same.
