I'm finding the French Press a small bit of a faff, mostly because I tend to drink two coffees in the morning
I'm not sure I understand this. What's faffy about a French press? Do you mean you have a small one that can only do one coffee at a time?
We have a 1L insulated french press that can do three coffees in one go. Keeps it hot for an hour or so without overbrewing too. Not that it ever lasts that long.

There’s no overkill with a filter machine as long as you’ve got the counter space. Count it as a quality of life upgrade. I set mine up last night and it was gurgling away at 5.00am ready for the cricket

Guessing it's the cleaning of the filter. Personally I find the V60/Clever Drippers a lot less faff due to just chucking the paper filters out (obviously not applicable if you're going the cloth/metal route). But even the Technivorm/Moccamaster brewers will have the same amount of cleaning. Unless it's the pouring that's a faff. Personally I've never found an issue with that, but then again I'm happy to use a siphon for a daily brew.
Chemex might be a decent middle ground as they're big enough that you can get away with just putting all the water in at once as opposed to the more steady/intermittent pours that are normally required by the V60.
Though having written all of this, assuming the Clever dripper is big enough, that seems like your best bet.

Just got a clever dripper to give it whirl over the V60. Mainly because the misses is not invested enough in the process to make a good one and the clever seemed a good compromise considering the "just dump the water in" part of the methodology.
Very impressed. It can do 500ml no worries and if you forget about it, still tastes good like a long brewed French press. Quick clean up and not needing bloom/ pour slowly makes it much easier than the V60. It's basically a French press without the faff off grinds going everywhere. Plus you can buy the filters in normal shops.
Win win win I think.

The V60 is always now always associated with this.

3 table spoons, just 3 table spoons. Got it stuck in my head now. ARGH

I think it's more of the issue with the small grit that gets through the mesh. Clean-up is otherwise easy, I just prefer no fines in my cup.
Clever Dripper may be an answer but I just had a look at the Hoffmann method for the Clever Dripper and it looks like more faff.
I am just being lazy and want that second cup on demand, as opposed to setting up for another brew.

Well there's your solution, keep with the French press, and just pour through a V60 ;)
Chemex might be worth looking into, I used to brew 500ml for the morning in mine. Could always brew two cups and pop half in a flask for later.

Just make sure to teach everyone not to leave an empty jug on the hotplate if it's switched on. When I was in an office with one of those we probably spent as much on jugs as we did on coffee.

Ever since having a baby I've been making v60s straight into this thermos cup, as the time I have to make it and drink it rarely overlap these days. The v60 cone from the decanter fits perfectly in it and I can make 500ml and forget about it until I need to pour out a cup. Keeps coffee warm all day it's bloody brilliant, I made a brew at 7am and had the 2nd cup around 4 and it was at perfect drinking temp.

Choose the least faffy one (there will be faff) that makes 500ml in one pass, brew straight into a flask, pour one cup and have the other one later? Clever or V60 02?
Although I would personally go Technivorm if I were you, I think the worktop footprint is justified for something you enjoy so regularly.Edit: there you go, three people simultaneously suggested a flask

Budget technivorm, love it!

(there will be faff)
Yeah. I think that I may throw money at this "problem." Also 500ml is NOT two cups. It is one and a bit cups.

Yeah not a bad substitute, I'd love to be able to fit a technivorm somewhere but having kids is not helping me in the space department.

I'm sure a real coffee guru will out me right if I'm wrong on this but fines in your French press coffee is more down to geindnquakity than the fact itsna French press.
We used to get lots of fines in our coffee but our new grinder has totally eliminated that.

I’m keeping geindnqukity for next time someone asks whether they should upgrade their blade grinder in the shop.

That's possible but I have a brand new Baratza Encore so to my mind that's not likely. The setting is kept pretty coarse (24-ish on the settings, close to mfg recommendations for French press). There will always been some things that are too small that will always get through the mesh. Unless you let it sit there for 10 minutes after brewing and then pour so slowly around and through the grinds in the filter as to not disturb things.
I may just be getting grumpy with my current method. Because not a god damn thing has changed in the last 12 months and I'm tired of being cooped up at home and the routine is mind numbing and let's change the things we have control over.
Or something.

It's a great game. If we're all having breakfast together the family freestyle beats both on the kitchen table & with pots 'n pans. We're aiming to hit the festival circuit in 2023 with it as a show.

Yeah I do this too during the week. Excellent life hack

The Hoffmann method for French press is pretty good for a cleaner cup, but does take a long time (a lot of that time is just letting it sit, but still)
We have a clever dripper and it's amazing. Clean cup, no faffing with steady pouring. If you want to make a litre just dump the water and coffee in for the first 500ml, leave to brew for 2 mins or whatever, while that's going weigh out the next dose and get the paper/water ready. Draw down into your vessel, dump the used filter in the bin, rinse repeat. I love the clever, and I'm too lazy for even the aeropress 😂

500ml is one cup, if you're doing it right 😎

The forum approved answer is buy both and then use one after the other without cleaning either... :)

If you learn the lyrics you can play along each morning. Highly recommended.
