So what you're saying is the getting offended on behalf of others is a luxury only the wealthy (or middle class) can afford?
Yeah, and they tend to be white. Urban too!

i love this one, "Awareness"

"Raising awareness is also awesome because once you raise awareness to an acceptable, aribtrary level, you can just back off and say “Bam! did my part. Now it’s your turn. Fix it.”

This is the author of the blog. A white, liberal, urban, middleclass, hipster.
he's only laughing at himself! it's no difference to black comedians making stereotypical jokes about other black people.

#124 Hating People Who Wear Ed Hardy
I actually like the stuff at first. Until recently, when the mass of fakes swamped the streets of East London.
I was in the shop the other day, buying some base layers and saw a not very young Asian fella in front of me who was wearing Ed Hardy jeans with bold graphics on the back, Ed Hardy hoodie, Ed Hardy t-shirt, Ed Hardy underwear, Ed Hardy baseball cap, Ed Hardy "Converse-like" sneakers and who had in his basket two pairs of Ed Hardy trunks, Ed Hardy tracksuit, Ed Hardy jeans, two Ed Hardy t-shirts and Ed Hardy scarf. Overkill :-)This is old, but funny:

@Markyboy Oh yes .. you are right. Wealthy, urban, middle class black people probably DO get offended on behalf of other people. But look at the African continent, the Caribbean? Is there a big anti-homophobia movement there? No. Infact the opposite, homophobia is pretty big in Jamaica, last time I heard!
That's why it's not strictly "white" people, it's a class/wealth thing too.
classic ahistorical cultural ignorance. there wasn't, only a few decades ago, a big anti-homphobia movement in Britain. i'm not sure it's that big even now but some progress has been made. there are very courageous people in the regions you mention trying to bring about similar progress.
and what's this getting offended on behalf of other people? Sounds like Thatcherite there-is-no-such-thing-as-society. Can't one just be offended? it's not the same as speaking on behalf of other people; a lot of which goes on on this very forum. If i hear someone called a Paki it's offensive to me; because it's inherently cruel and unjust, because it makes life less pleasant for all of us. I'm not offended* on behalf* of that person. -

I think what is meant by 'getting offended on behalf of other people' is when these other people are not actually offended at all - the vicarious taking of offence on behalf of others might have some resonance if it accurately reflected the offence taken by the people being targeted - sometimes it doesn't.

Thought so, a darkie.
By the way, few years ago my wife and I were living in a small cull de sac, which used to be an oasis for elderly white cockney ladies. At some point, few Black British mums with babies moved into the area.
I remember one summer afternoon a lady from the first house complained to my wife about all those suspicious coloured fellas walking back and forth down her street.
At this point she realised, that my wife is also Black and she said:
*"Oh no, luv. I ain't saying nothing about colourd folk like yourself. I was talking about the DARK'UNS"* :-)) -
