do you have an example of the white metal flake painted? this is what i was going to get done to my car, but about 5 diff pro's said, that a white metal flake is disappointing unless you use a different base layer colour.

bigben Hmmmm, OK just spoke to them and they'll do 2 frames for £75 as the prep is most of the work, in other words bits and bobs no problem, but multiple frames would be taking the piss.
Kind of shoots the whole thread down really.
:(Agreed, unless for larger quantities they would knock a bit more off. Essentially, by just saving a £5 on (40X2) isn't much of a saving considering the logistics of getting a load of frames up there from different people?

Unfortunately not. I didn't end up using it. According to some custom Harley forum I looked at a while back, It gives a more subtle effect. Another advantage of white is it blends better if you have two base colours.
I was going to use it over a white base a while back. Any other colour flake on white base would have looked like it had dirt in the paint when the light wasn't on it.
I think the way to get the most intense effect is to use a large chrome/silver metal flake, then a candy colour over the top.

i was thinking more of bits 'n' bobs anyway: brake lever, calipers, maybe a seat post (any idea how much thicker a powder coat would make it?) and some rims… Though not all the same colours, necessarily. So I'm still up for sneaking in with a bigger order. And I live East anyway, so dropping them over is no hassle. Might change my mind on the colours though.

• #91
le car, were you thinking gloss or matt or what? black i mean.
-
• #92
gloss
-
• #93
hmm, i'm still deliberating whether or not to respray the already perfectly good metallic purple paint... if i do it'll be black, white or grey. what about metallic black?
-
• #94
i'm thinking of getting some stuff done, but not sure if it should be black or white
-
• #95
white... go on... do it...
-
• #96
remember, it only goes glossy when they put a clear coat over the top. So if two of you want stuff in black(or any colour for that matter) but one of you wants it gloss and the other wants it matt then you are still AY-OKAY.

Not with powder
-
• #98
oh, I was under the impression that when they powder coat it at first it's matt, and then they have to put on a couple of layers of clear to get it gloss. That's what it seemed they said to me at least, but i might have misunderstood...
either way, they definatly put a couple of layers of clear on my frame after the coloured powder coat.

Le Car, Flickwg, Superprecise: I'm in on the black, matt or gloss, if it's happenning. What parts do we all have? Should we start another thread and try and get this done? Sooner the better for me.
