  • anyone staying up to watch the superbowl tonight.? I usually lose interest by the third quarter but I have a few very unlikely bets on tonight to keep things interesting.

  • you don't see this many people showin' up to soccer games. just sayin'.

    that's a lotta humans!

(and penn state football is the best)

    They're not humans! They're 'mericans!

You bet on stuff you can't be bothered watching?

Actually, I do that with lotto some times.

    Forget it.

Yup. Waiting for the match to start before I start punting though...

Latifah to rap America the Beautiful is already down as a loser ;-)

  • I wasn't paying attention. Did they just sing the national anthem twice?

  • Not quite - Latifah butchered America the Beautiful, then some Pop Idol type winner murdered the anthem...

In fairness it looked like neither could hear themselves singing...

  • lucky them

That is a whole lotta humans! Or 'mericans (super humans)

Penn State beat LSU this bowl season. Good for them, I wouldn't have picked them but that's cause I'm SEC biased.

As for the SB, I've just never gotten into pro football. It's on now, but I'll be asleep in the next 1/2 hour for sure.

  • Holy cow - an onside kick!

  • Has anyone here played american football *in england ?

*Like as part of the BAFL?

there is a team in my city, looks like a lot of fun. Although I fear my total lack of athletcism may cause me to be crushed. but still thinking of going to try it out.

I have always wanted to have a go at rugby, but the fact I wear glasses made it impossible. With a helmet, + wearing sports safety glasses it should be ok.

  • Holy cow - an onside kick!

that definitely won them the game

  • Congrats to the Saints. An amazingly gutsy performance all round after an ominous start. Worthy winners...

  • played three seasons at uni and two for a bafl teams. cannot recomend it enough. beautiful thing is many involved are overweight throwbacks from the channel 4 days, so any fitness level is a bonus. i suffered without glasses, but i can see enough to recognise a brown ball and two colours of uniform, much else is unneccessary!

oh and rather a dull game, punctuated by two daring plays, and 30 £ won.

  • I hope you don't mind the resurrection!
Its possibly the only time of year when most folks here get enthused about american football, so anyone got any predictions for Superbowl 45 in Texas?

  • I don't follow Pro. I would if we had Sky because I go through withdrawal here without constant Football. I do watch College religiously and this year Auburn (my alma mater) is playing in the National Championship game (like the Super Bowl)! Monday night is the most important game Auburn's played in my lifetime.

As for pro, I really hope that the Patriots don't go for the AFC. I think they've got home field advantage and have played well so they're probably a good bet to go, but I'm just so tired of Bellichick and his invincible, boring Pats.

  • Everyone knows that College sports>Pro Sports.....

  • Better viewing as well.

    me too...
still my prediction to make the superbowl though-
because the AFC has no one that's performing as methodically:
Colts have lost something this year, they were formidable 2 yrs ago, but aren't anymore,
it'll be interesting if they come up against Baltimore, but realistically, I'm backing the Pats.

For the title, probably going to the Pats also- think in the NFC- it'll be between Chicago, Green Bay and Atlanta, because all three seemed to be gearing up, rather than trending down at the end of the reg. season.

As said up thread I used to support 2 teams.
I now support the 49ers only- its a team i have a real connection to.
If they move to Santa Clara as predicted, I feel its going to be a turbulent few yrs for SF, with a massive loss of support and money, meaning more difficulties for the team on and off field.
I wasn't surprised at the firing of Singletary, this year started bright and we've some amazing players, just development is needed.
Whilst at home i had access to sky redzone, which is the best thing ever invented.

I try to follow college, and Stanford have been my team (home town), but it was difficult to do so for a while, so can't say that I do now.
Oregon are having a ridiculous season.
as are Stanford, mostly thanks to Luck's brilliance.

  • Well, humour me, but as a Seahawks man - I'm praying for a win tonight.....

Oregon are ridiculously good. And Stanford are not far off! Luck is a shoe-in to win the Heisman next year and would have won it this year if not for Cam Newton.

I'm ashamed to say I picked VA Tech over Stanford this year. I was surprised at how far off I was, Stanford destroyed them!

As for San Fran, I didn't even know that was going on! Seems strange, but maybe the change will spark some new life. Coaching right now is insane, and there are so many facets across the sport; from the devout loyalty of Penn State to the complete lack of patience at Michigan. I guess Auburn were lucky to get Chizik, even though he was very unpopular at first.

    @Pistaboy - Good luck tonight!

  • Everyone knows that College sports>Pro Sports.....

Especially in the South! At least they have a pro team in Tennessee, in Alabama we don't even have a team to ignore in lieu of College athletics.

    Good lord. What a play!

  • Holy crap...

  • Oh yes you little beauties!! Seattle, you were (lucky in places) persistant!
    A tribe called Qwest.......
    Cheers Serk!!!
