• does anyone know of a ISO taper 107mm bb other than miche primato? (BSA)

as putting ISO cranks on a JIS bb will set them 4.5mm further that if on an ISO bb, would i need a JIS bb 9mm shorter to achieve the same chainline?

  • Hey guys I've got a question about front mechs, didn't wanna start a whole new thread as I'm assuming it'll be answered fairly simply

I'm moving a 9sp Ultegra group over to an 80s Cougar frame I've got. Need a new braze-on front mech as the one I have is band-on. What do I need to check for in terms of compatibility? The rings are 53/39. Would the Sora 3500 mech work?

    Cheers

  • Can someone please do the thinking for me?

I have Phil Wood hubs and a BLB generic chain ring. I want to buy a bog standard Shimano BB-UN55 - because Tester says so.

Which BB width do I choose?

  • Does the UN54 107mm bb together with the 7600 chainset and 7710 hubs with EAI cog give a 42mm line?

  • This may have been answered previously but I cba to go through 29 pages to find it.

Would going from a 165mm crankset to 172.5 crankset make much of a difference (fixed) on the road?

  • I've just made the move because of my exceptional inseam (35"). I love it and would urge everyone to go for it provided that you ride a track frame (with a high BB shell, so you have less change of pedal strike). Also remember to think about toe overlap before you make the drop.

  • Hi

Wondered if anyone knew if Campagnolo BB cups from the old record cup and cone BB's are all the same?

I know the record and nuovo record are different and they come in different threads and thick and thin walls but is a Strada cup the same as a Pista, etc?

    Thanks

    Alex

  • Hi,

I have an old raleigh built BSA frame with a cottered 71mm BB shell. I want to change it to a cotter less and I have looked around and a VO thread less BB should fit but was wondering what crankset to use. I am doing this slightly backwards I know, but there is a VO thread less on ebay that will fit, it is 107mm, but I cannot find a crankset that uses this, maybe an FSA Gimondi? Does anyone have any recommendations as to what transmission combination would be suitable?

    Many thanks!

  • ^ Is a replacement square taper spindle + loose/caged ball bearings with the original cups not an option? Not that the VO threadless bbs are bad, far from it.

  • Does anyone have a Miche/Campag bottom bracket tool I could borrow? Without the pin in the middle as I could not tighten the NDS crank arm with the tool I had as the BB spindle prevented the tool from going any further?

Is it the Parktool BBT-5 or similar?

  • BMX issue for anyone who can help.

I had a new chain fitted and a service by a local bike shop as I really could not be bothered to do it myself. It has come back and doesn't seem to crank properly. It goes round a couple times and then just seems to lock up.

They did mention there was a loose part on the sprocket so they took it out and put it back together. Could it just be a lack of grease in the bottom bracket do you think or is it a case of fetching it back there and seeing what they've done?

  • Whats the best looking crank chainring combo?

Currently using Sugino 75 crank and ring but am digging the Rotor/Sugino Zen or Rotor chainring combo

  • It's down to personal taste obviously, but RotorZen is probably the most bling.

  • Just ordered some of these for a build various conflicting infos about, would I be right in following the 103 JIS, it sounds/feels right...

  • I left a frame at the bike shop to have a SRAM GXP bottom bracket fitted and cranks installed. Just got a call from the mechanic saying that there was a washer on the BB missing. I think he means the black ring near the NDS cranks in this picture:

He says nobody sells spares and he chucks all his away when he doesn't need them (?!) so I need a new BB if I can't find it. Does anyone know different? Easy to get hold of? Have a spare kicking about? Any advice or comments?

He was also going off on one ranting about the bills his shop has to pay and acting like a dick, bit much for 10am but that's a rant for another thread. Thanks in advance!

  • Make a request in classifields, I'm sure someone has stocked a used one - only the geeks hang around here.

  • BB that works with FC-7600 cranks coupled to 7710 hubs with EAI cog?

Is the Campag Centaur 111mm not a bit too long in the spindle for 7600 cranks?

I see peeps run it with Sugino 75s. Same?

  • 111mm does indeed work excellently with 75s to give a 42mm chainline. Should also work with the DA as they're ISO too.

  • 7600's and sugino 75's are both njs, all njs cranks need 109mm ISO for 42mm chainline, 111mm ISO in theory gives 43mm chainline but in practise once you've torqued the cranks down, and EAI cogs generally give a wider chainline anyway, gives a straight chainline

tl:dr = centuar 111mm iso is absoloutely fine

  • Cheers for that lads!

  • Hi,
Been building up a single speed beater for the winter out of old parts I have found up and was hoping to run a Hollowtech II Deore crankset. Put it on today with the chain ring fitted where the middle ring should be but the chain line is way out...out around 8mm when measured. So I was wondering can I space out the chain ring bolts but it occurred to me this might look a bit odd so spaced out. Or would this set up how it is now work or should I just get a new chainset and BB. BTW the shell measure 68mm and the rear spacing is 120mm.

    Any help appreciated.

  • Sugino 75 + Campag Centaur 111mm + ? + Dura-Ace = nohwolf

  • Miche Primato Advanced + ?107mm JIS? + Dura Ace.
Any advice, shimano un55 or worth paying (how much) more (e.g. campag record, SG75 or PW)?

  • The difference in quality between bottom brackets is not that great, especially if we're talking sealed and you end up tossing it after a year or two. The only reason I bought a campag bb was because I am paranoid about deforming my cranks (ISO->JIS). Maybe don't get the 75 or a comparable Hatta/loose bearing if you're going to use it in wet weather/for commuting.
