  • with apologies to PG Wodehouse

i said it before him ;)

thought i may as well say that before dogsballs does

    weather is looking tops.

  • jonny is that invitation to stand outside your small abode this evening before the off still open..

  • if you are standing in london fields you will be standing outside my small abode. am thinking if people need last minute track pump (puncture on way to start of ride) - refill of water bottles, etc. then will open the door. but the real pre-ride atmos will clearly be in the park itself.

    see ya later dude

  • You said the 'P' word!

    sssshhhh.

  • puncture tonight, will be the least of our worries my friend ;)

  • Best of luck peoples, I'll be there in spirit... OK, that last bit was a lie... ;)

  • good luck you good lookin' guys 'n' gals. Can't be there to see you off but I will mutter a brief "whoot whoot" under my breath at the appropriate hour.

  • Broken spoke - bollox - not what I had hoped for...

  • Better now than 3am..

  • Pre-ride food slowly cooking in the oven. A BBQ Chicken pizza. My favourite!

Do we pass any kebab shops in Epping?

  • It's Epping.. guess :)
You'll need to battle the steaming chavs in their hot hatches.

I should wander out and get some real food. You still keen on 270k+ with your orange machine?

  • 270k?

  • 295k if you count my ride to the start (Sam wants to ride back to Ipswich, along the coast).

I've flipped the stem so will be shunned by any hipsters and in severe pain again as per last year.

    Sweet.

Actually, even more since i have to ride BACK to Ealing. Fuck that Sam! I'm getting the bus. :)

  • A man on a scooter will be coming round with my pizza.

Then I'm going to doze on the sofa with the TdF on the telly in the background.

Looks like there's going to be a crosswind so I'll be looking for tips on riding in an echelon.

  • Just ride back, you'll be alright.

I did work out a route all the way home including crossing the Thames on the Tilbury ferry. 100 miles in all. Didn't think of it again until just now :oS

  • I've flipped the stem so will be shunned by any hipsters

I realise I've made all the wrong preperations!

so off comes the brake, on with some un-taped track bars, forget the saddle bag and water bottles, forget the rucksack with energy food and spare clothes. Instead I've got an xxl messenger bag full of records, spoke cards and camera equipment with space for two cans of red-stripe.

my massive new-york chain will be round my waist, the lycra is out and the jeans are on.

    ready to roll.

  • Nice! Although consider replacing the untaped track bars with 8 inches of straight steel piping for optimum comfort.

  • What time should I be at London fields?

  • good luck guys. i like your get-up RPM, every inch the hepcat bombadier.

will expect regaling with tales on monday night.

  • are people really getting there for seven, hoping to rock up for about half eight, couple of jokes, bit of banter then off down the road for 120 miles of slog, whose gonna be there for eight half eight?

  • Me. I'm debating whether to catch a train to the start or ride. I don't really need the extra distance.
