  • I would be surprised if there was even a single wrench available at the Gazelle company.

With some tools and cartridges of Acethylene/Oxygen I would love to build a couple at home though.

  • My new gazelle, got it for free :D
might want to restore this bike, keeping it mostly original, any suggestions?

  • Just make sure it all works properly and try to keep as much as possible from the current bike. It's a win.
If you want to put some other parts on it, take a look in the oldest catalogues.

  • any suggestions?

Disassemble, clean, polish, reassemble, sell to me.

  • Hello all! I've just created a wanted thread but thought I'd ask on here as well... I've just got an AA Super and it has the braze on for the aero down tube shifters in the centre of the downtube but I am missing the bit that bolts to the braze on and takes the shifters... Don't really no how to explain that simply... I'll link a picture shortly... Cheers, Matt

  • (the one on the left of the picture...)

  • Dutch Cheese, can you shed some light on why Gazelle decided to strike through the decals from 1988?

  • Yes. That was the year that Gazelle decided to give in the hands of a pro. They hired industrial designer Peter van der Veer to design parts and concept bikes. His first attempt was decals for the lightweight series.
iirc, the dash was designed to bring a speed element/illusion. Industrial designers are not always good bike designers and often have an odd taste.
But it was a pro's idea, so nobody questioned that design.

  • Mattyc, that shifter part came from Ofmega, I think.
Without it, the frame is worthless.
Try to find it somewhere or have one machined.

There may also be a Sun Tour part that fits.

  • Cheers DC, all sorted now - got a gipiemme bit in the end... same as this... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7054/6933649697_9d2240d91c_m.jpg from a shop down the road...

  • here she be... forgive the cable routing...

    Yes, that's it.
    That's the original part.

  • ^^ nice one! would love to find one in my size... (59)

are your brake levers in release mode?

  • Cheers Peter, And well spotted - they are in release mode in the picture, sorry to say one in your size (57 c-c seatpost = 59 c-?t) in the same colour but with more blue around the bb and seat cluster went on eBay last night for £200... V v v velo was the seller, he always has some tidy stuff... I'll keep you posted if I see another!!

Industrial design ≠ graphic design, should have gotten a graphic designer for the graphics :/

  • ^^ aaargh, too bad I didn't see that. edit, don't see it now either in completed listings? thnx if you can give me a heads up if you spot one matty!

  • That looks just great Matt. Glad the shifter mount was so easily solved, when I got the bike the part on the far right of your picture was bent heavily and could not be used anymore.

Love that she will be ridden once more, have you tried her out yet? The seat tube devouring the back wheel looks amazing on these frames.

Peter, I saw that AA-Super on Ebay too, but it was the version without a monostay if that´s any consolation.

  • yes that's a consolation, cheers Ata, I'm after the monostay-with-indented-rear-of-seat-tube version

  • Hey Ata, Cheers! yeah I was expecting it to be a mission but I found the mount within two days (Thanks Sargent & Co.)- and yes, been riding her to work to give the lo pro a rest... I've heard that delta's are shit and tubs on a commuter are a bad idea so i thought i'd try out both at once... time will tell, so far its bloody good fun!

Indeed no monostay... I'll keep an eye out...

  • Monostay Monday! I thought I would ad a pic of my AA-Super. Yet to be built with AX groupset.

Dutch cheese thanks for the detailed answer. At first I wasn't a fan, but it has started to grow on me.

  • on the subject of monostay... did anyone see if that red AA Super Baanfiets on Marktplaats was sold?

  • nope still there as of yesterday

  • but gone this morning
    600 and a bit EUR
    not a bad price considering
