  • i dunno about light jumping being a recent problem, iv always jumped lights, and i know my dad has, i think its just because theres so many cyclists now compared to 5 years ago.

  • renan.....in regards to what you said i think there are bigger and more influential forms of law braking going on.....say for instance illegal wars

  • for some bizarre reason the sixth formers in my tutor group were talking about this (a bike conversation not started by me) and it turns out that all of them thought that it wasn;t actually illegal for bikes to go through red lights.

if they say so... then it must be true. all this about coppers stopping you... pah! why are you all lying?

  • Officer Tallsam = pig loving scum.

  • aidan renan.....in regards to what you said i think there are bigger and more influential forms of law braking going on.....say for instance illegal wars

I love it when people go on about the invasion of Iraq being illegal :)

Would it be cool with you if it were legal ?

Or is the legality not an issue for you ?

Just the very idea of a 'legal' or 'illegal' war makes me laugh, kind of like someone complaining about a rape they witnessed that broke on of the rapists code of conduct (incomplete removal of trousers) and is therefor illegal (as if the correctly carried out 'legal' rape would be better).

  • naw hes talkin bout him and his mates down at the footie

  • I used to spend a lot of time in Berlin, my ex was German. they seem to have a different attitude to traffic there. Car drivers know that cyclists and peds come first, they wait for you to cross or pass without expecting to be thanked by you. I found it very strange at first when out in the street at a crossing, there would be no cars around but everyone would wait patiently for the green man to illuminate before crossing. Cyclist are given lots of their own cycle lanes and traffic lights and they all wait for the green before they go. My ex went mad when i tried to cross before the green light, either as a ped or cyclist. I think they just have a whole different attitude towards road use/safety, or maybe they are all just too anal? In Germany although it's a large motoring nation the car doesn't seem to be king, where as here everything has to stop for the motor car and it or other road users take precident.

  • Strange how there are no cycle coppers out this morning, I didn't see them where they're supposed to be! I wonder why they've given up on their 'educational' campaign a day early!????

  • One good thing about the rain, not many Police waiting at the lights.

Fair weather cyclist the lot of 'em.

  • Was it raining?

Dave Moulton's blog had a great little history lesson about history of road racing in Europe vs UK and speculated how the UK cycling authorities self imposed ban on cycle racing in groups is the reason cars became so dominant here.

  • When's the next Critical Mass?

  • Just answered my onw question! ;-)

actually to think about it the UK's not that bad considering how people drive... well that's compared to italy, india and china and many others.

I have herd that before. It is cultural shift that would take a generation or more but still worth work towards. As road users I think we in the UK are pretty impatient and selfish. This culture just breads more impatients, it's the whole overtaking people and being cut up when the light is red up ahead and there is a que of traffic, I am not just talking about when you are riding, when you are driving it is just as bad. Most accidents or near misses I see are down to impatient behavior trying to stay that 5 feet ahead because it is perceived that it will save them time but it infact slows down traffic flow. I too am guilty of doing this at times but am defiantly improving, most people just don't seem to want to improve.

yeah you're right.....i was going to try and correct myself by writing unjust but personally i dont think war can be just...........anyway slightly off topic :)

  • Reading some of the comments on here about dealing with the rozzers reminds me of the 9th commandment of the Ten Commandments for the London Cyclist;

*"The government pays billions of pounds every year to subsidize the car. They do this through road building, traffic management devices, police fees etc. the police are employed by the government to maintain a dangerous, potentially catastrophic system. Reasoning with policemen is not known to ever have worked. They should be treated with extreme caution."*

  • |³|MA3K Just a bit.

I have a massive boiler room near my office. I am now drying all my clothes there. Hope the boss doesn't catch me sitting here in my boxers!

Yeah, with you there. It'd be great if there was more of the European attitude towards bikes. But it's a cultural shift that cyclists have to make happen. And I think it will only come about if cyclists demonstrate to drivers and peds that it's not a race, not a competition for space on the road or to be first away from the lights. Cabbies hate cyclists because "they've no fucking idea how to use the roads.."etc. Peds hate cyclists "Cos i seen an old lady get knocked down by a bike on the pavement." These attitudes aren't not be fair, and they grossly misrepresent the truth but you won't change them by being antagonistic towards other road users or the police.

  • Confession time, I think that she is hot...

  • If you put your chin on the desk you can ..

  • Bridget the Midget.
I got a 'lady DVD' for my secret santa this year.
    It was Bridget the Midget.
    And I watched it.

It's not right, but how wrong is it?

  • Midgets are only wrong if you dig them (up from a graveyard)
