the police beat up a mate of mine from college last year, in clapham and they didnt get taken to court even though they had bruises, because the coppers said they were lying and there was no cctv. its ridiculus that its still happening really, i rekon sooner or later young 'gangbangers' are gonna give up fucking each other up and go for the police like what happened in france in the banlieus.

Coppers are all shitcunts, FACT! A mate I grew up with is now a copper, haven't spoken to him for years but last time I saw him was about 12 yrs ago, about a year into him being a copper. Now the thing that made me question him wanting to be a copper in the first place was that he was always a sound bloke. We did all the growing up shit together - going to clubs, raves, getting pilled up, smoking weed, shagging the same birds, the usual shit and he always had fairly decent, secure, well paid jobs and a good lifestyle, anyway - I digress.
As I said the last time I saw him was in a pub about 12yrs ago and he was telling me how him and his other copper mate used to go round the council estates in Reading/Thames Valley(where he was based) being well out of order to all quote 'the gypo's and dolites' usually pulling them up late on a Fri or Sat night when they were pissed and/or alone coming home from the pub and literally give them a few slaps, quote 'for a laugh'
Probably a pointless and dull read to most but that's always stuck with me and I've never forgotten what he said. -

what not that many bagels? the books okay but the guy is sometimes a bit too self righteous, but then again spending that long on your own travelling around would probably do that. i think its an okay book though. -

You can't back up an "All coppers are cunts..." type statement by citing an example of some copper you know. That's crap.
You might not like it, and you might not agree with the law, but if everybody on a bike jumped red lights all the time it would be chaos. And if nobody on a bike jumped a red light ever, the police would have to go out and look for other ways to improve the crime figures and raise some revenue; like fining motorists on the phone etc. -

alot of it is about numbers
crimes reported - convictions (includeing guilty pleas) = crime rate, since trafic ofences dont count as crimes reported, but if they go to a judge or you sned in a tickit and check the box its a guilty plea.
-
• #142
Lights were made for traffic, whether that's cars or bikes or horse and cart. If you're on the road, you're traffic. If I jump a light on my bike and crash into you legitimately using the road you'd be pissed off, wouldn't you?
-
• #143
beacuse you jumed when it ws not safe, not beacuse you jumped
-
• #144
just like crish crash said, just because its red doesnt mean i automaticly jump it but if its safe for me and everyone else then why should it matter if the light is red or not? its like in that program road rage: battle for uk streets, all of the people who they videoed jumping lights got to the other side withut hitting anyone or being in a crash, mot of the time the road was empty apart from them, doesnt this prove the point that people only jump the lights if it isnt dangerous ?

Okay NOW we are officially C+ forums. Quick, ban anyone who's mentioned RLJ!! Oh shit I've just ment ///user account has been disabled///

villa-ru I'm not averse to skipping through the odd red light - but I am bloody careful to look out for rozzers on the way. They are mostly in flouro jackets - so if you miss them, you can hardly say you were fully aware that it was safe to run through.
Does mean I occasionally screech to a stop for a fatbloke from the council though.
not quite, in my situation i was riding on the right side the coppers were stopping at the lights to the left and between them and i were nothing but buses. i saw all the peds, but i could not have seen them early enough in any circumstances.
-
• #147
fuck the lights, it's coppers we're doing now.
there's some good, decent people working in the pigs, but a lot of those people don't seem to be your average beat copper.
they get a lot of shit from people they can't touch, then dish out a lot in revenge to those they can touch

C+ = cycling plus, they host the world's most famous forum on their site for the most meaningless thread on RLJ.

I jump lights sometimes, I stop at them other times, it depends. But, I was thinking about the 'it doesn't harm anyone' argument today. Yes, if you jump it when no peds/cars are crossing, it doesn't do any harm then and there, and it appears to be a victimless crime but i reckon maybe law breaking encourages a culture of law breaking. If pedestrians continually see cyclist running reds and getting away with it, won't they be more inclined to commit crimes? I mean, this is a recent problem, before it was only couriers who ran lights, but commuters started doing it and now everyone is doing it?
It's like downloading music - we know it's illegal and could get arrested for it, but we also know we'll get away with it. When you get away with breaking the law, you break more and more laws.
I dunno - it this bullshit?
Yeah what is it with poeple wearing iPods on bikes? durrr
