  • Can't believe I missed the Hoff by a few hours..
My whole trip now feels void.

  • Fixed.
Your right.. I flew in and out of Schoenefeld but had to take an taxi to get an early flight to catch the Milian San Remo the next day.

In my defence I hadn't had any sleep for around the entire 48 hours I was in Berlin.

Okay yes the East Side Gallery is gimicky but at least its a free gimick.
Open to better suggestions on parts of the Wall and/or general street art to see for next time.

Not too far from where I used to live there is a lot of street art by a certain 'Penis'. His tag is normally just writing the word 'Penis' in huge letters, as below:

But if you take the Ringbahn between Humboldthain and Nordbahnhof, just before you cross over the bridge over Gartenstraße, you see his masterpiece, 'Penis Life'.

Never failed to make me smile, I always imagined it to be a particularly Berlin version of 'Thug Life'.

  • couple of weeks until my trip. any good exhibitions on at the moment? is the weather usually OK in late April?

  • Got this asked to me by a friend -
"can you or you other cyclists please recommend what bike I should buy (now that I live in Berlin and cycling is safe)?"

No real idea about Berlin, terrain, etc. Can anyone recommend something and where in town, to go to get it?
(Just so he has a hands-on place to try before he buys)
    We've covered off www.velosaloon.com

    thx

  • Berlin is generally flat as a pancake so anything will do, 20kg Dutch bikes are pretty normal there.

Try Stadler (http://www.zweirad-stadler.com), it's like a giant bike supermarket, it would be easy to find something in there. But there are tons of good independent bike shops all over the place that are generally friendly.

  • I think it's Pannierstraße (aptly enough) in Kreuzberg is basically a bike shop mile with some good second hand shops.

  • Lol Pannierstraße - thx!

  • Bitte schön

  • Does anyone know where Rembetis on Oderburger str went? I'm sure it was there earlier this month?

  • i went there in jan and it apparently was already closed for two months. the guy at the coffee shop next door told me the owner is ill and was forced to give up the shop. you can still email him though, maybe he has his stuff stored somewhere else and one can view it on appointment?

  • Mmm, how good is that coffee though.

Jay75, try Cikago Bude on Ebertystraße, near Landsberger Allee.

Not in the same league as Rembetis, but some interesting stuff and they're nice guys.

  • Didn't get done in Berlin but in Freiburg. oh the shame
As a foreigner, they wrote me up a fine, then as I had an Oz address, likelihood of actually paying was reduced so they take you over to the cash machine and make you withdraw the money. Who knows if they pocketed the cash but my "receipt" was very official.
    I then expensed it... I confess >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That is an awful lot like being mugged. Surely they cannot do that? You could always deny you even had a card, or a bank account too.

  • Just got back from a 3 day wedding celebration, despite pissing it down yesterday tea-time, had a great time riding between venues and places of interest, a lovely city.

  • Off to Berlin next weekend, does anyone know if there's anything special on, I don't want to miss The Hoff by a few hours ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  • If you get the chance its not a special event but go to Mr Minch, Yorckstraße 15 if you're into cakes. Its in Kreuzburg.

  • "Kreuzberg" :)

  • I like how you let the your you're pass but get the name of a Berlin ghetto slightly wrong and you're all over it.

  • Oh man I love the cake. Ich leibe die Strudel

  • Ich leibe die Strudel

    "Ich liebe Strudel."
