I'm not sure what the difference is for two shimano's. However, both the goat link and the RAD cage act by moving the top jokey wheel back in relation to pivot point of the mech to allow for getting the chain up onto the massive ring. This is why an extra long b screw bodge can achieve a simialar thing.
Dont be fooled by the long cage. This is still not designed for big range cassettes. It is long to take up the chain slack in triple setups.
As 1x setups with massive range cassettes are becoming the norm, shimano will likely build this compatibility into their components going forward. It is essential for 11 speed as it was pretty much designed for 1x setups for enduro/xc.

I think what I'll do is buy the 11 speed xt mech and give it a go, if it doesn't work I'll cry, smash it to pieces and sell the bike.

Theres very good cassette clearance on a 11 speed XT. Should be fine.
I want to move from 11-36 to 11-42 on the fatbike NeXT year. But I have 10 speed Sram XO. The top pulley is definitly closer on that one. Worth a try though 32:36 is going to give me a heart attack.

32 oval:36 helps a,fair bit on the ups.....next cassette will be a sunrace...maybe. I've yet to find a hill that I can't grind up....close though!
What I could really do with, is a higher final gear, so I might go 34 oval first, then when I'm blowing out lung butter on the big hills, I can admit that I need a 40/42 sunrace!

In other news though, I went out yesterday and the trails are drying brilliantly! Felt proper whizzy on the salsa!

In similar other news, I was out last night for an after work blast and it was dry, warm and light. A wicked evening

Last fatbike ride.
Find New trail, With some snow, some slushy mud.
Starts at 18%, does 1km at 13%, then eases to 9% for bit before hiking up again to 12%. Only 3km in total, but fuck me.

Looking into getting a couple of ceiling hoists since my flat has stupidly high ceilings. What do folk think about suspending a Bronson from its dropper post? Is it an awful idea?

Which course is that? I was looking at these from Wasing the other day and the A line looked well scary.
-
• #8515
Wasing - 'gap' A line (gap as in hollowed out to be unrollable). That big log A line was closed after a girl landed on her head - she's OK.

Suggestions for a FS medium travel burlyish bike that the Mrs can take to the Alps, BPW and pedal up Afan?
Something like the Kona Precept 130, Cannondale Habit etc that won't break the bank.

Giant Trance 3 for £1500?
https://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/trance.27.5.3/25011/90562/#specifications

Yeah something like that. Trek Remedy is similar but wallet-bashing. She liked the Slash she hired at BPW too, but it's not the most pedal friendly.

These are like £1300 retail
Chuck a dropper on it and bosh, done.
also found there's 10 speed deore shadow + which is available in long cage.... I would like to know what differentiates the XT 11sp which is rated to 42t and the deore which is rated to 36.
