I concur

They are awesome as long as you don't ride over flint. I swapped mine out after one 50 mile ride round here, got 6 holes in the rear. Conti XKings have done 2000 miles, not a single hole.

I cant watch that without being distracted by the waste of a quad rig.. Amazing place to shoot, but what a bad result :(

Are there any alternatives to the Genesis Fortitude being made at the moment?
I'd like to do some XC racing this year. I'd also like to do a few overnighters so it needs to be a bit of an all-rounder. I don't really want the expense or faff of suspension so a non-suspension corrected 29er would be perfect.

Cannondale do a version of their trail 29er that's rigid (and SS). It's the same geo as the suspension frames though. Nevertheless I thought it would make a super light and super-quick and dirt cheap XC mile muncher. Will take a derailleur hanger, too, and at least you get a whole load of front mud clearance :)

Sounds like you want a Surly.

Pinnacle Ramin One looks like a nice simple 29er and they're proper cheap.

Just bought an On-One 456 Evo 2, 20" to use as my only non-fat geared bike.
Looking at the geo chart, some of it doesn't add up.
http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FROO456E2/on-one-456-evo2-frame
Stack: 597
Reach: 410
Seat Angle: 71.2
ETT: 618tan(angle) = opposite/adjacent
tan(90-seat angle) * stack = ETT - Reach
tan(18.2 degrees) * 410 = 134.8mm
ETT - Reach = 208Taking the angle as incorrect...
tan(90 - seat angle) = (ETT - Reach)/Stack
seat angle = 90 - tan-1((ETT - Reach)/Stack)
seat angle = 90 - tan-1(208/410)
seat angle = 90 - 26.90
seat angle = 63.1So should I assume ETT and seat angle weren't necessarily calculated for the same fork length as stack and reach?

Also, is standover measured vertically through the BB or some specified distance in front?

Much as I'd love a Krampus I'm not sure they'd be much good at XC racing. Cannondale and the Pinnacle are both options but not ideal in terms of geometry.
Looks like I'll be best off looking out for a used Fortitude.

£449! (if you fit an S or an XL)
I kind of want one.

You and me both.

^^ Not a real fatty.

There's a nice bike, somewhere under all that hideousness.
Why can't Cannondales have nice paint jobs anymore :-(

@Emyr They've used the term Fatty to describe their alu forks for yonks - but unlike most of 'em that one will take 29er+ rubber with room to spare (or so I've read).
@BareNecessities yeah it could be prettier. This years is (yawn) BBQ black, 2013 was the much more awesome GT40 blue / orange. Of course none of this matches up to Sobe tribal green.

Alu fork? Out.

Nice.

Also Salsa El Mariachi. I see a couple being raced sometimes as well as Singulars
-
• #6574
I looked at the Singular - it's suspension corrected.

i don't really understand why you would want non-suspension corrected ? there's no disadvantage to it? is it a visual thing?
They are awesome for rad trail funz
