I suspect you just got a dodgy one and you could have just as easily had the reverse happen. Some people have hope hubs that go wrong quickly and others ( myself, so far ) where they seem to go on forever.

plus i'm building as slighty retro wheelset and the evo's might spoil the look !
-
• #6279
Oh well, that's far more understandable :-)

Ti Glide in 3DV or >>>>>

Sorry, forgot this isn't retrobike.

Fair enough. Better than forgetting it's not bikeradar >>>>>

the cranks rotate while walking the bike rather than remaining still thus there is some excess friction in the drive train
No, there is some excess friction in the freewheel, which has no effect on the drive since the freewheel doesn't freewheel while it's driving :-)

You could turn delivery into a decent training ride.

• #6286
it's never done many miles.
What's your current perspective on 'not many miles'?

• #6287
hey gabes,
hope you are doing well
thanks for the offer, but i have the 36h rims here and am looking for a pair of 36h hubs v1 in black to build onto them.
i saw je james has some for sale in a recent bit of delving.. might give them a ring -

and hope of course !

Hmm, yes, I need a ride up to London soon. Racing this weekend in Wales. Ultra-enduro. 136 miles, off road, 17000foot of climbing. Non-stop on a new route. Can't wait!
Maybe a ride to London in November, that's a challenge if it's cold! 170 miles from here, reckon I can nail that in 12 hours including stops :)

No worries, it's just hanging in the shed, I'll probably use it on the winter SS then..

That hub has probably only done about 300-400 miles ever.
My current pro2 evo is 6 months old, and has done over 1600 miles mostly off-road. I've cleaned and greased the freewheel twice already, they aren't so great if you actually use them.
Next hub will be a Chris King.

Anyone up for swinley Thursday or Friday?
-
• #6293
Depending on when I'm working, potench.
-
• #6294
Friday?
-
• #6295
Yeah but probably won't be finishing work until 4am so i'd prefer a slightly later start.

• #6296
I'm racing this on Saturday. Going to be a killer. Loads of hike-a-bike, loads of climbing, 80+ miles in the dark, rain, lightning, probably some hail.
Can't wait!

Still a bit bummed out I've had to pull out of doing it this year. Have fun!

• #6299
Are you going to session any of the downhills?
-
• #6300
Not sure! Maybe I'm punishing myself for 20 years of debauchery...
i bought a pair of originals about 5 years back and they have been working fine ever since
i bought a pair of evo's a couple of years back and the freewheel mechanism is already a bit shonky / not moving 100% freely the cranks rotate while walking the bike rather than remaining still thus there is some excess friction in the drive train, the cassette carrier has begun to feel a little bit notchy... i know it's just a matter of pulling it off and whacking some grease in, but i just feel the older hubs are made slightly better ... or it may be the sealed bearings they are using were slightly better either way i just have a better feeling for the originals
i haven't given hope a call but will do that today
