Just received a Salsa Juan Solo v2. Scandium with Carbon seat stays, EBB for chain tensioning.
Need a fork. Designed for 440mm rigid forks or 80mm sus. 1 1/8" straight steerer needed. I can probably justify £100.
Can I get a Rock Shox SID in decent condition for that much, or is there some other lightweight short-travel fork I should look for?

I wouldn't really call it a cross-country capable bike by the looks of things. Dirt roads yes. Maybe that's preferable if dakin isn't actually going to do proper mountain-biking on it.
Lets have a stupid discussion about what proper Mountain Biking is

^^ also worth looking at Rebas - practically Sids but way less dorrah

Don't get your knickers in a twist. Dakin says he wants to do XC, so I'm not sure if a 'rough road' bike is a good recommendation.

Pls. Modern 29er XC rigs are one short travel fork and a flat bar away from a modern CX bike.
-
• #6008
Well I suppose if you ignore the geometry and the tyre clearance, yes.
-

flat bar
Hwrd pls, riser bars.

The Straggler's a great bike for sure, it just won't be as comfortable on trails as (for example) an Inbred. Bah humbug. I'm going to bed.

Neither of which prevents you from riding XC. Especially if you consider the straggler will happily take a 42mm knobbly.
Riser bars? Pffft. This is as modern as they come. Flat for the speeds :)

^ much want, too

Riser on small 29er frames means you need megabucks stems

^^^ Small chainring - big cog combo >>>>>>>>>>>>

Straight to anti

Well that argument didn't go anywhere.
Nobody even mentioned redundant wheel sizes :-/

Yep, no point having risers if you then have to run a negative stem to get the bars back down low enough. Flats for 29ers unless you're a giraffe.

There's a couple on here.
26er Fatbike with a second wheelset, 650b so you can run Paselas for touring and still fit 27.5x2.5+ knobblies when you want to go fast up non-technical climbs..
