I want to do a decent shakedown of my cross-country bike, which is a hub-geared hard tail. Preferably something with a few reasonable climbs, so I can at least see if I've got a reasonable gearing setup.
The Surrey hills are probably your best bet. Leith Hill and the surrounding area will present you with a couple of testing climbs :-)

Hey Cam, did you buy it?
I'm looking to get something, was intending on spending less, but that does look sexy!
(Any other recomendations greatly received)
Hey Louie, yep I bought it! It's fast as fuck.
Maybe you could buy this off me?

Care to share? Choosing mtb over road riding this weekend, finally.

I like climbing and I like dirt. Share please...
Though now I think about it, I't not a fancy Gramin man, so I imagine it'll be pointless for me.

Or we could, you know, organise fixeh skidderz mtb excursion?
1300M of climbing, all the peaslake trails, summer lightning and all the XC you can shake a stick at.
Sunday 15th? Train to Dorking

^ Would recommend.
I spent a couple of years exploring that area and there's some great trails to ride.
Bloody hard work on a singlespeed though D:

Can't do the 15th, but that route does sounds pretty good. I've ridden around there on road, but not the offroad trails.

Surrey Hills are pretty special given how close they are to London.
Upsidedown did it SS. Beast.

Can't do the 15th but I'll happily steal someone's route or wait until people go again... Considering I live about a 10 minute drive from Shere/Gomshall I should really pull my finger out and go ride my Surly...

You took the words (well the 6 stone bit, Howard is a long way from being a teenager) out of my mouth.

Came across this the other day.
I'm looking for a (i think) 26er rigid MTB for commuting, occasional weekend cross country stuff and the odd weekend bike packing. Can anyone recommend anything?
I've looked at Charge and Genesis' MTB completes. Are they any good? -

On-One Inbred 29er if you don't mind having the same frame as everyone else.

Surly Straggler
Except I wouldn't commute / lock one up around town - too blingy in the purple they pinched from my Talbot

I wouldn't really call it a cross-country capable bike by the looks of things. Dirt roads yes. Maybe that's preferable if dakin isn't actually going to do proper mountain-biking on it.
Go to Swinley
