After a fair bit of fiddling, now just need to cut the steerer and then probably a different saddle and the cotic will be "finished"... really excited to get out on the trails on it soon. always wanted a 6" fork... since I was about 13.

BB y u so high?

It will sag quite a bit with TM sitting on it
-

As will the saddle angle actually, thinking about it. Some things never change.

as long as it looks right parked up outside the pub
once you are sat on it nobody can see it anyhow -

The lakes and dales.
No excuse. I just did 100 miles offroad in Wales 1x10, and a few of my mates were singlespeed, fully loaded with bikepacking kit for 3 days out too.

Give yourself a pat on the back.
I'll stick with my uncompromised choice of gears thanks.
Upsidedown, never know if you're trolling, the bb height, high compared to what?
-
• #5887
BB looks high to me with those (150mm?) forks. Hate high bbs on mtbs, but obviously it's personal preference. Suppose peaks riding is less twisty than the stuff I ride and clearance matters more. Do you not find it really wandery on climbs with the slack HA/SA with layback post though. What I loved about my old Ragley was that it still had a slack HA with forks wound down to 110mm travel, and the steep seat tube angle kept your weight forward for climbing.
never know if you're trolling
Bit a bit of that too.

I'm with upsidedown, the soul is good for 140mm but even cotic recommend it is fitted with 120mm forks. If they are 150mm then cotic warrenty is void if it snaps (it won't, so who cares) but it'll lift the bb and make the steering a bit ponderous. Slamming that stem will improve the front end, screw the aesthetics.

My gears aren't compromised. 11-42 on the back, gives me plenty of range.

42... at first I was thinking
WTF?!HTFU then I remembered your knees. -
• #5891
yeah, it's pretty handy for getting up 30% climbs in Wales too. It's not as low as a granny gear though.

42t cassette, mind blown.
I'm happy enough with 3x10 and see no reason to change. Got the group off a donor bike abd worked out a bargain.
There is no warranty, it is second hand.
I had shorter forks and wanted longer.
With an inch and a half to 2 of sag it lowers somewhat.
I like more laid back, and the forks wind down should I ever feel the need to do so.
Laid back and long travel for fast, technical, flowy... Well all descents, adjustability for the rest of the time.
Having not had a proper test ride just yet and just a quick blast, all I can say is I think it rides fantastic and is perfect for my needs.

Finally, based on other 6" forks I've seen, I think these have a relatively short a2c.
-
• #5894
Gabes - is that with a fancy adapter to give you the 42? Or do you have mega pricey cassette?
-
• #5895
Yeah, it's a one-up components 42. Put that in, remove the 17 and replace the 15 with a 16, nice smooth gear range. Quite pricey, but more and more are coming on the market, and it's a LOAD cheaper than stupid SRAM cassettes.
Here's the bike just before heading to Wales over the weekend.
Here's where we slept saturday night.

Help required. Anybody recommend or lend me some fork grease? I'm rebuilding mine and completely stumped as to what to use.
-
• #5897
I has m-prep. Is this for stanchions or air springs or both? You can use red shop grease on the later or light damping oil IIRC. For stanchions you don't really have to have grease too as they have their own oil bath.
If you need help ill be back in town end of next week.
