Pretty much I think. I'm looking for a light hardtail 29er, I tried 27.5 and it was fun but i'm still undecided. I'm digging that lefty vibe plus have always been into 'dales.
I'd only consider an F29 if I was racing XC. And then I'd rule out the crabon version in favor of the cheaper, better value alu version. Either way, they are pretty uncompromising - one drop handlebar and a rigid fork away from a CX bike.
I just can't believe they'd be much fun, especially at UK trail centers. But if you have a 'fun' MTB too and just want to race XC on the F29 there aren't many equals.
These guys seem to think they have some of last years alu versions for £1400.

Just back from four days in Afan on an Orange Gyro Pro. Very impressed. Fast uphill, fun downhill. Only 110mm front and back but felt totally capable on rocky descents. Really want one now.
:)
Five 29 might been even more fun! -

Nah! Gyro is pretty capable. I don't get near enough to downhill insanity to warrant a Five. It's a lovely bike.

Get a go on a salsa spearfish..... Only 80mm at the back, but feels like more.

Well, that's basically a no from the entire forum then!

Indeed :)
If you are free on Saturday I have a place going for an off-road 'sportive' in Woking.
Actually I probably have two free places as my wrist is still a bit buggered so I'm likely to no-show

Ah, collecting the bike from Swanage on Saturday hence wanting to ride on Sunday. Thanks though!

I expect Charlie could point you in the direction of some great trails near Swanage?

I'm sure you're right, I just thought it would be nice to ride with someone else!

Come to Swinley over Easter when I get the 29gnar rebuilt.
-
• #5765
I'm leaving the country on the 17th, the day before Easter Friday, fortunately for me.
-
• #5766
I was gonna try and head there on the 12th.
-
• #5767
I shall put it in my diary. Pm me. Swinley is only a few miles down the road from me.

Had a great bash round peaslake today, but have bent the rails on my saddle, any good recomendations for a budget, strong, fairly narrow number?
Also where else to go south out of London? Swinley doesn't do it for me, but need more place to ride.

It's called Tilgate forest, you get to it via parish lane which is only 200m from the a23 junction. I lived here for 23years and rode Tilgate before whatok was even born, so he can shut it.
Surrey hills peaslake area is better riding simply cos there's 20x more stuff to ride.
Shut it whatok.

Went to Swinley today. Still quite a lot of closed sections of trail. Lots of evidence that they are rebuilding the closed bits so hopefully it'll get better soon.

Rotten news for those planning on riding the Beastway series this summer, as the venue isn't (yet) fit for purpose;
