  • ^ Looking good there Tom!

Hopefully worth all the hassle :-)

  • Cheers! Yeah just from the quick blast along the street I can tell its going to be great fun. Just hope I don't stack it tomorrow with new bike confidence.

  • Good work TM.

  • Looking good dude

  • Done it justice gridds? (:

    So psyched.

  • Yes indeed!. You might find it has better handling with a shorter stem though. See how you get on.

  • Well yeah, would've been using that 70mm Thomson but can't get the bolts out without more tooling.

Doesn't feel too bad with that 90mm on, didn't have anything shorted kicking about in 31.8

    80mm might do the trick.

Ah yes, I see. Sorry, I was viewing the on my phone while being distracted. If you can sort out the 70mm I reckon that would be best.

  • Solid, looks fun TM

Is the stem rescueable or is it become slave paperweight?

  • Rescuable... Just need to source whatever it is I need to get the remainder of the old bolts out.

Had to swap seatpost out as well, although I think I need a layback, that one isn't long enough so there's a Thomson inline on it now.

I just bought some gum walls I was planning on using when I rebuild my old GT as well, think they might look decent on this.

  • If you drill a smallish hole in the remainder of the bolt you can hammer a torx bit in there and wind it out.

  • Good call, not sure if I have a torx but its an excuse to buy some...

  • Go to a local car place or tool shop. You need a set of easy outs, they're reverse thread so you drill a small hole and wind them in thus winding the bust bolt out.

  • TM. I have a long layback Thomson if you like? It's the longest one they do 410mm I think (whatever it is) un cut. Yours for £30 posted?

  • Anyone got a cheap, small (15-16") disc frame knocking about? Even a basic Carrera type thing would be fine!

    Cheers

I have a Black Market riot for sale

That would do nicely! Is there any chance of holding it till the end of the month? Have skinted myself for the minute and running out of overdraft fast....

Had a wicked ride at Gisburn forest on Wednesday, did the red/black route... Only one crash, which I'm blaming on the long stem. Think I might try a 70mm +10* with the layback post, I reckon it will be spot on...

Can anyone recommend me a decent but un-pricey stem of such description, with an os clamp?

    What sort of price Tom?
Syncros stuff is nice for the price - seven degree rise though.

  • I have a raceface downhill one that's 70mm x 10 degrees, but it probably weighs more than your bike :-)

  • There's a Truvativ am stem that would match you bars. Five degree rise.

  • Once you get down below 90mm a lot of mtb stems tend to have a bit less rise to them.

  • No probs with the post, TM. It's not going anywhere. Just let me know when you want it.

  • Girlfriend and I wish to have a few days break, stay in a B&B or hire a cottage and go offroading.

Our preference is not heavily manicured or built trails, but riding rough hewn trails in woods.

So somewhere like longleat forest appeals more than swinley since its renovation.

Where can we go In the uk that can offer this kind of thing? Girlfriend wants roots and rocks to bounce over on her fatbike.

  • Go the lakes n ride in the wild

Deda Zero 1 Cheap and solid, 60/70/80mm×6°

    Pro LT 60/80mm×6°

Pro PLT, a bit more expensive but 60/70/80mm×10°

  • Thanks for those tester.

How heavy we talking? As I'm in the looking for best position stage, I want to spend as little as possible..

DJ have a look at Gisburn forest... Really rocky and technical stuff, quiet as well.
