Are the truvativs porky? It's for teh xc bike so don't need tank like strength....
The bike is already a bit garish not sure I can stomache green or white bars on there (know this shouldn't matter)
Are Easton EA50 any good? pretty reasonably priced...
-
• #4579
The Eastons are good bars, but I'd only choose the EA70s above the Holzfeller
I've got a 50mm pair ( that I'm not selling ) and they're comfy on longer rides.
They're not porky at all for a 700mm hi rise bar.
Edit - quoted 260gm for 20mm rise version. Lighter than EA50 and wider

The Easton Havens that are going cheap at Merlin are great bars, but they're 20mm rise.

50mm risers on an XC bike?
I know you're not exceptionally tall, so do you have back problems?
You're not another bloody T Rex are you?!

Ordering the Truvativs, apparently sub 300g which is good enough for me, have just seen other "hardcore" bars at 700g + which seems excessive... Thanks for the assistance!
Not exceptionally tall, but 6 foot 2 and running a fork that I got off tester with a steerer that forces me to slamdatstem... Had a crash in the dales on Sunday which was purely down to the front end being too low (have low rise bars on there now, 1/2 or 3/4 inch I think) so higher bars seems appropriate...
and the Truvativs are 40mm

I used to have that trouble sometimes - Especially if the fork was a bit divey.
The 29er phenomenomeneomenom appears to have helped a lot with that problem :-)

I think you've seen what my namby pamby trails are capable of doing to people......

And by people, I mean Indra :-(
But no, you are up norf where men are men and trails are proper.

y u so early ?
sunday = lie in day surely -
• #4588
I think it was a combination of low bars, fork a bit soft, saddle too high for the terrain... And not having done any proper technical mountainbiking for a good long time.
Indra, mountain biking on a brakeless tarck biek...?
well I can guess his excuse...

The kojaks roll fine, had them on a polo bike before going for skinnier kojaks and now run them on a saracen kili I use for moving the kid about.

Me too. Gonna do my usual half-blue, red, half-blue after work.

Yeah, I've tried to get her to do a 4X race as she's pretty quick and can jump too, but she's not competitive (much) and is wary of a crowded track. Your Marz forks are doing a sterling job on my Flow BTW, thanks for that.

had a lot of fun at swinley this afternoon
was the girlfriend's second ever go on a mountain bike, so we did the blue (intermediate run) as our first trail. it takes in the sticklers, whole nine yards and a couple of other bits of familiar trail.
everything has been very sanitised, and smoothed over, berms are very smooth, banking built up. we took it quite gently, but I was really impressed by Annie on the fatbike, she did not bail on anything and was really smooth in her bike handling. there were a few sections where I would have expected someone on their second only go offroading to have frozen up or stopped, instead she threw herself into it all.
we also did the green (beginners run) after we had finished the blue one. she complained it was not challenging enough. she actually much preferred riding at longleat forest two weeks ago, where the trails are much less refined, more rooty and technical.
the fat bike looks like so much fun, and am now wondering if anyone has one in stock apart from on-one
when my knee has recovered from surgery we aim to go back and do the red run to see what it is like
