SS or gears?
-
• #4228
Gears for sure.

Maybe 10 of them, but just because a clutch rear mech looks interesting, seems a little overkill.
-
• #4230
10!

• #4231
So many, I know.

Depends how much money I have left after getting everything else sorted.

Look forward to seeing it built

I'm looking forward to throwing it off stuff and falling into trees.

Anyone still interested in doing weekday rides? I have Thursday and Friday off this week and might be up for it

re: seb's video...
Look at those arms. Miles of them. Also 1/2 as fast as Follow me. :)Seb, you're a lucky bastard. I don't hate you, I'm just jealous.

I work for myself and work from home in Guildford. I have work on and other responsibilities, but I can sometimes take time off during the week.
thanks for the offer but I think I have visitors now unfortunately! The idea was to finish building the bike on Thursday and test it near home, then a proper ride on Friday. Not going to happen now probably

Went out for a wizz round wimbledon common and Richmond pk I know its hardly hard core but enjoyed it. 1st time riding a bouncy bike ! very strange, feels like tank and can roll over anything. but at the same time because of the forks it feels like all the energy of the peddle stroke disappears, good fun all the same

The arms are long but go pro makes it worse. No where near as fast as follow me, was 2nd run of the day on zoot, and it's such a hard track to ride. It's just a rut on the side of a hill, on pretty much every run you'll clip the side of your pedal, when they are level, its so narrow. If i get a faster / better video i'll post that up. There is a distinct lack of mud and loam about at the moment, just like living in one big sand pit.

There's a distinct lack of loam, sand and dust here. Though the last week being dry has made lots of stuff round here rideable again. I'd still love to make it to NZ, one day.

anyone able to recommend a decent mtb shop with mechanic in london? I have my zaskar i'd like converted to disc brake and would prefer to send it to someone recommended.

Converted to disc as in have disc mounts welded on? I think you might struggle with that, isn't welding aluminium after heat treatment a recipe for cracking?
-
• #4246
The new ones already have disc mounts don't they?
Just a case of new wheels if the current ones aren't compatible and a brake set. Most brake sets come bled ready for you so all you have to do is bolt on and tie down the hose. Getting a mechanic to fit them would be silly imo as it's so simple and for any adjustments you're undoing the bolts which take them off.
Perhaps go to the shop with the bike so you get what you need like the correct size adapters for the rotors you're going to use but fit them at home.

Do it, I just spent 4 weeks there over Xmas riding all over the S Island. So many good trails, but the hills largish (not Alp/Whistler big) good fun on the down, calorie burning on the up.

you can get adapters for the rear, so no welding required but a bit of drilling. this is a 90's zaskar
-
• #4249
Keep it original man, 90s Zaskars are sweet. You can always get a disc on the front

Drilling?! Christ, don't bother. Do this ^
I've gone down Snowdon too, going up was a bitch.
