  • I figured the stiffness of a lyrik would be appreciated when riding stepped footpaths and rocky steep stuff. I ride natural trail, think lake district or alpine footpaths, not smooth stuff. And I like to ride fast. I could go pike, but thought lyrik would be s bit future proof too if I get a bigger bike to replace neuron at some point.

Actually having spoken with my mechanic this morning he's convinced me a new 3 pike will be way more than enough. Then when I get bigger bike just go to a zeb.

  • £742 in VAT, duties etc on the Jibb frame/fork.

  • Could buy a car for that!

    Brexit bollocks.

  • I literally did! 14 year old Ford Focus. Lovely car. Worth at least half any of my bikes!

  • 14 years young!

    Old Focus crew reprezent

  • Okay. I think the Lyrik is a real enduro fork, I never noticed a lack of stiffness on the 150mm pike I have

  • tbf if you had it sent to Germany you would have paid 19% VAT to the German tax authorities but instead you paid 20% to UK customs. So it's not really £742 more expensive. Think of it as a charitable donation to the NHS (and try to ignore the bit that goes to pay Boris' salary and the probably exorbitant handling fees from Parcelforce)

  • That's good to know. And I hear the new 3 is even better

  • ~£120 is duty, £25 a fee, but yes, the majority is VAT.

  • @Dammit what grips are your preferred choice?

  • I know you’re not all into xc but eesh Rab Waddell dying 2 days after he won nationals is rough. Sounds awful for his partner who was there trying to save him.
Top guy with an absolute child like joy for riding his bike, whether skate park, Mtb, trainer or on the road. A real inspiration to do what you enjoy and a silky smooth rider for an xc racer.
    RIP

  • Anyone seen the bike dropping videos going around, presumably from Tik Tok?

Generally heavily damped enduro and DH bikes that don't bounce.

  • Yeah I think it’s a load of pish really.
The supposed idea is that the bike should stop dead rather than bounce.
The idea has been floating around for over a decade but I think it’s meaningless.

Edit - I’ve got to ask… does the Madonna bounce or stop dead?

  • I’d query the duty. Assuming it came from the EU then it would be duty free

  • saw that on pink bike, shocking. the comments section on pink bike descended badly in a way I don’t really understand too

  • Why would you want it to stop dead? Rebound provides traction.

  • Oh wait, TikTok. It just has to look cool.

  • I think my rebound is fairly fast, but double-down tyres at low pressure with inserts along with the coil shock provide a lot of damping.

  • I've just watched some of these videos to find out wtf they're actually doing
I reckon most full sus bikes would stop dead, but it's completely different once you add the mass of a rider to it

I'm almost certain if I tried this with my bike it'd fall over and smash my mech off

  • I can also say without any doubt that TikTok is not for me thanks
