  • Trip to casualty might be a good idea if concussed.. heal up quick

  • My wife is not happy about the trip to be checked out. But 111 strongly advised getting checked now and not waiting.

  • In faceplants and in health innit.

  • Hope your beautiful face isn't too ruined.

  • Dude. Sorry to hear. Hope you heal up quickly.

  • And they're right you need to get checked ... Concussion sucks. Bad. Take it very easy for the next few weeks and ask about what protocol to follow re exercise

  • My wife is saying I am over reacting and shouldn’t bother the nhs.

  • You're saving the NHS a lot of follow ups if you get the right treatment and advice now. Also stay off screen, don't do anything too cognitive challenging for the next 24h etc. You need to rest that noggin.

After neck break accident I'd read 2 paragraphs and need a sleep. That only started a few days later. The first night in hospital I watched movies etc, and the neurologist said to me.i fucked up there and should have closed my eyes and rested instead

  • Sorry to hear that James - hope you heal up soon. Teeth can be replaced, so whilst that's annoying it's only temporary.

  • Uff, sorry to hear that. Heal up quickly!
And very good advice re giving the brain as much quiet as possible.

  • Get checked. You were dizzy immediately? Bad sign.

  • 9 hours in a&e to be told it’s minor concussion and go home. Staff were great patients not so much. Three self harming women who go to the hospital every day and knew all the staff on first name basis. They go there so they can harm themselves and then be treated, it’s like a gang/club. They wind each other up and encourage each other and then call the staff to help. One person hung herself twice needing oxygen the second time, another cut her arm open twice, the third headbutted a wall until she started bleeding.

Need to take it easy for a few days, even using phone feels like an effort. Booked dental appointment for Monday. I will use full face helmet from now on, as the crown etc is going to cost a fair bit.

I am tired, sore, embarrassed hopefully a few days rest will be all it takes. Will aim to limit screen time.

  • Gosh. That sounds like quite the experience. I had some interesting other patients in teh ward as well, including a person that was so disoriented that she screamed for help every 5 mins and then forgot she already did that. All ... night ... long.

The tiredness can be pretty debilitating. Give yourself as much rest as you need for a few weeks. Ramp up exercise slowly, back it off a notch if it makes you feel worse. Oh, and get some gold teeth ...

  • Oh, and don't be embarrassed ... crashing happens and is never fun, but you got the aches already, so no need to add to that.

At least you didn't get a second smile from riding walking pace in the car park!

  • James, I implore you to wear that full face helmet.
I’m quite certain that my full facer has saved my life or prevented life changing injuries on two separate occasions.

Very sorry to hear about your injuries but you can be happy knowing how much worse things could have been. My brother in law crashed in a road race in Manchester a few months back and you can’t imagine the grief there was while waiting to get the full story of what had actually happened. He also lost his two front teeth and a couple broken bones, but as said bones mend and teeth can be replaced.

You absolutely done the right thing going to hospital, head injuries can often initial feel ‘not too bad’ only for things to decline later on.
Take things very easy and heal up well :)

  • I think I’ll bin my old lid, it took the impact at over 20mph so I assume it’s a write off. The helmet has actually left a small cut and a bruise on my forehead from the impact.

That will only leave me with the TLD Stage full face. I’ll have to endure a little more sweat! But replacing that will be cheaper than more dental work. For someone who admits he is an utter twat I don’t understand why I felt too self conscious to wear the TLD for fear of looking like a tit. Live and learn

  • Bin the helmet.

You did the right thing going to the hospital - you do hear urban legends of people dying overnight after a small bump on the head. Hope you feel better soon.

  • A full face helmet saved, certainly my whole face, but quite probably my quality of life.

I broke my arm and managed to still cut my lip. In fact...I have a clip of it...(WARNING if ya dont like crashes but its not too gruesome...thanks to the lid)

I don't wear one normally though, just bike park where its descent after descent. I have the Bell Super 3R which has the detachable chin guard, perhaps a good option for ya. Can hang it off a bag for the ascent and then chuck it on when it gets rowdy?

    Extra points:
Yes that was dumb, my hand decided it would brake on take off, completely of its own volition.
Yes that Orange 224 is way too small for me but it was pink so....

  • Glad you're OKish.. Amusingly I knocked myself out riding the dad bike without a helmet at the local bike park on a blue trail. No concussion. Drove home!
Decided to buy a helmet then had an off at the same bike park resulting in concussion and a trip to A&E (MRI scan involved). Felt a bit shit for a few days. Concussion is a weird thing.

  • Subsequent knocks to the head are likely worse ... Maybe that's why ...

I mean, even my relatively minor mudguard incident recently, where I only landed on my chin, resulted in head aches and a noticeable phase of dark thought and mood swing patterns.

  • lost a few teeth

    I feel ya
Which ones went if you don't mind me asking?

  • Thankfully it’s only one. It felt worse at the time but I have lost about 1/3 of top right central incisor. The gap feels huge I thought others were chipped too.

Starting to feel a little more human. Last night and up to lunch time I was really struggling. After I stacked it pure adrenaline and survival mode kicked in. I knew I was possibly the last person out on the trail, sunset was due any minute and I just had to get to the bottom of the trail and ensure someone kept an eye on me as I wobbled around like a drunk person. Even this morning I wasn’t feeling clear headed and conversation felt slow like I had to grab words as they went past inside my mind.

  • It's amazing what you can do when you're full of adrenalin!

Glad to hear the tooth is recoverable - much more straightforward repair wise if there's a decent amount left.

Do you recall what happened, or was it a "why am I on the floor?" job?

  • I have been told I am not allowed to ride on my own in future and have to use a full face helmet.

Other half was presenting at a COP26 event today so didn’t need the stress of me fucking myself up. Was so badly in the doghouse.

  • about 1/3 of top right central incisor

Seconding Dammit, took them 30 minutes to fix this for me. Think it ended up slightly nicer even as that tooth used to be a bit bigger. Although it has discoloured over the years and I should get over my dentist-phobia to get it polished.
