A joystick on the helmet is a good addition. Long wide beam on the bar and the little one is good for scanning detail in your peripheral. If you can swallow paying £20 for the plastic screw in mount that is.

Already bought for this exact purpose. You can sleep sound at night knowing your joystick is strapped to my helmet. Oooerr.

I found an envelope with birthday cash in that I had neglected to spend after I put out my light 'call for help' thread and buying yours. Hence went a bit mad of CRC. 30% off the big bugger mind. So not as speedy as it could have been. Still cheaper than a 12spd SRAM cassette overall... 11 speed FTW etc.

Lit up with Exposure on a Santacruz. If that doesn't get me into the golf club.... 😜

Can anyone recommend a 29er 32hole rim for xc and light trail use? These DT Swiss xc are in stock but anything else people like?

I'd reckon the 331s are a bit narrow for MTB tyres. I've been running the 361s on my Gradventourer with 42c tyres for about 4 years now. They built up easily, seem fairly durable considering the lack of rubber and rocky paths I've flung them down.

I had to buy some Sun Ringle rims from China as I couldn't find anything wide (>25mm), reasonably priced and acceptable weight

DT Swiss M502 fits the bill perfectly - cheap enough, wide enough, light enough, strong enough.
Has been excellent on my 29er for several years of hard riding yearround.

They look good and in stock in a few places. Do you run an insert?

Can confirm the light is wholly adequate. Definitely need a helmet light - lucky I've got one of those on the way - for when things get boggy and slow. Sometimes it's nice to see the hole your front wheel is in when your winching yourself up a climb.

17 miles. 10/10 Will ride at night again.

I have a Joystick and a Diablo now and use them for road and dirt races, in combo with Supernova or Maxx-D / Six Pack if I'm doing batteries.

Yes, they’re great.
No need for inserts if you can ride competently without smashing into rocks, and know how to use a tyre pressure meter.

I liberated this from the shed last summer where it was languishing, barely used the past few years.

Cost megabucks and a few months for the (good) bike shop to get a service kit for the Solo Air’s, but still cheaper than new forks.

Then? A couple months ago I noticed some play in the shock linkage. Ignored it as long as possible, but just paid out £50 on the 8 bearings.

Once I fit the bearings this weekend, I’ll wait for the next part to fail.

I rode from Broomfield to NCAR Boulder to see the dawn sunrise, long wide roads with zero lighting. Had a light on the bars, light on the seat post, Garmin on the bars as well to show me where to go - and went straight past a six lane turn because it was just outside the little lozenge of light that was surrounding me.

Riding back in the daylight I was amazed, but simply didn't (couldn't) see it at night.

I run xm421 in that application in 25mm flavour.

Helmet lights also good for finding bivvy spots, going for a bush shit, working on bike, shining in the eyes of arsehat drivers etc

This. I snagged some foliage last night in rear derailleur and had to remove my light to actually see it. Then struggled to remount it in the dark!

Much light forward, not so much light where I needed it.

Yep I usually only had dynamo light on the road bike so you definitely needed a battery source of light (preferably one you didn't have to hold) or you'd be working on stuff in the dark!

Bought a full face trail helmet a few weeks ago but have felt too self conscious to wear it.

Regretting it now having face planted, concussed myself and lost a few teeth. Waiting for wife to pick me up. Bike is ok. I am dizzy and unbalanced.

Sorry to hear it mate, hope you heal up quickly and get back on the bike soon (with the full face perhaps)!
