  • Might have to check it out next time. Was hoping to get a week mountain biking in West Yorkshire just before Easter, which obviously never happened.

  • 24 12 should of been happening later this month in Plymouth, think it's still planned for 2021 tho

  • I won't be doing it this year. It's hard enough trying to remember what I need for a TT let alone a mountain bike event.

  • TT - pointy bit of the hat at the back
MTB - pointy bit of the hat at the front
    Simples

  • rocks up to 12hr TT on singlespeed duallie with camelbak full of IPA

  • Wouldn't be the first time to be fair.

  • Not my finest hour or twelve. But the afterparty was great :D

  • Finished it last weekend. Now just need to learn how to ride.

  • Coming to Epping tomorrow or are you just riding round Wimbledon Common?

  • It’s really easy to find, head into The top of the forest from any point - we came in down the bridleway off The a658 but there’s two or three car parks too. The trails then work their way down and across the hill- lots of deep cut in berms, little jumping or drops that I found but lots of up and down.

  • Going to Dorking tomorrow for a short and sweet xc loop.
Epping is way above my pay grade right now.

  • Is that bench in memory of Jean and Bill?

  • Watching mountain biking on YouTube (I find Paul the Punter quite fun), he's roughly as terrible as I am at clearing tabletops - in his most recent he was talking about pulling up a lot more, which I'm trying to relate to actually being on the bike.

Is this similar to initiating a manual? Or am I throwing weight in the wrong direction with that assumption?

  • No it's more similar to a (american) bunny hop.

  • Could you elaborate?

  • With manuals you shove your arse back and down with legs bent but when you jump or hop you should have straighter legs and be more upright with the bike below you.

  • Therefore pulling the bike up toward you, as you stand over the bike?

  • I sent this to a mate recently when he was having trouble jumping. Was one of the better how-to’s I could find.

  • Are you doing a mini jump on the bike before hitting the take off so that your weight comes down compressing the suspension? Then as you’re hitting the take off, your suspension is rebounding and you get the pop

  • Yeah. The still from @Dry 's link shows it well

  • Very much this!

Far more beneficial than pulling up imo/ime

  • your suspension is rebounding and you get the pop

Might want to run less rebound if your bike is particularly planted, and definitely no compression.

One thing to bear in mind is that you want to compress the suspension in the transition of the jump, and then bunny hop off the lip. Start small then hit the canyon gaps at Rampage.

Just pulling up is reminiscent of when I started jumping bikes in the 90s before the days of YouTube, where everyone just landed on the rear wheel. Feels much better to land both wheels together(about the only thing I'm good at when it comes to jumping), rather than smashing all of your weight through the bars

  • Yeah I was probably not using the right terminology there

you want to compress the suspension in the transition of the jump

This is what i was trying to get at

  • Anyone got a bit of advice on upgrading my wife's MTB. Genesis Core 20 for 2015, cheap ish fork and running gear. Wanting to get it set up 1x 11 or 12, dropper and decent fork.

Would I just be better buying some OTP that has all this as standard?
