With the way he swings those things about, they probably chuck norris’d the bike.

Quite the image thanks

Yup the other 2 had already crashed in the path and I just came over a jump and saw them stopped dead. Tried to brake but went into the back of Barney although I didn’t really hit him or his bike, just my foot on his wheel so could have been worse. He wasn’t too happy

Too hot to go outside so doing math instead.
With the aid of the nice diagram and measurements on CRC's dropper post i have carefully worked out that ramming it in up to the hilt* on the Karate Monkeys bent seat-tube should leave me with maybe an inch of wiggle room either way, so i might get to lower the saddle another inch over what i can with the rigid seat post. Or if i set the start height lower i might get a better drop.
Can only drop about 3" at the moment which was ok but a bit more would be nice for steep techy stuff. Seems viable :)Next is wheel Q/R's current ones are a tad lightweight and the close-over lever is a 2 part design held together by small roll pins. I see a good rock strike shearing the lever into it's 2 parts, FSA wheelset XC290 with FSA Q/R's
Got some random Q/R's in a box somewhere to rummage and try.
Have just looked at Shimano XT Q/R's bit spendy these days. Hope MTB Q/R's next best still ? have an old one that's been fitted/removed with rocks and hammers trackside so i now they are tough, was thinking of the Halo allen head skewers too.... any thoughts ?*will need large hammer for final 22mm of lower part of post to fully ram up to the hilt, joy of bent and interupted seat tube designs :)

Shimano closed cam QRs will give you the best clamping force. If you're friendly with your LBS, they may well have some in the spares bin.
I've broken 2 of those Allen key ones, wouldn't recommend. -

Yep you have just confirmed what i remember about the Halo's maybe they have changed the grade of steel used but i do recall what could be heavy handed user error and rounding out or snapping the heads off. Might just "Hope" it as Shimanos are nuts on price.
Wish i bought a Salsa Cromoto 20mm axle rigid fork years ago :) although i see identi do a 15mm thru axle one.

The mechanics at GB team would never use hope skewers for some reason- they had some idea that they came loose- though nobody could ever say for sure this had happened. They used Shimano as a go to

The shimano system is better and i recall Hope's having issues years back. think they changed the cam angle and materials used. Used a hope on the rear in vertical dropout with no dramas other than crash and rock strike forcing me to beat the thing open post-race.
Had issues with Q/R's on horizontal dropouts (Alu frame) but using chain tugs cured any slippage, never had a Q/R undo but have suffered axle slipping.
In the context of the Surly KM, i have put the monkey nuts in the dropouts (spacers) so wheel movement should be a non issue, more concerned of snapping the lever on the current FSA ones. -

Help! Need XL 29er made of metal; https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/336616/
What have you got?

Is my maths/ guessing right- a 650b+ tyre at 2.8 will have similar diameter to a 29er 2.3 tyre?
I feel my 650b+ are a bit slow and draggy for marathons, so might get some 29ers with thinner tyres for this and keep the plus size for smashing round local rocks.
Absolutely don’t want to drop my bb anymore though -

I use this for geometry and tyre sizing: http://yojimg.net/bike/web_tools/trailcalc.php

and...
No worth getting too hung up over difference between 2.8 and 3.0 tyres as the difference is 5mm, easily absorbed by difference between tyre makes and tread size

Yeh that’s perfect graphic thanks!
I’m thinking of swapping from quite fat 2.8 650b+ to around 2.3x29 so should end up same bb height, same rough wheel diameter but slightly easier rolling -

the alpkit (sonder) short travel full suss looks nice......good prices too

Warrantied :)
Had a bit of an in store bust up with the booking in party - but as i rightly insisted it was SRAMs decision and not his.
Anyone after a BNIB GX 11spd rear derailleur and nearly new shifter?
