Oh interesting.
Most I've ever done solo mtb was 12 hr my god it was awful
-
• #12303
Yeah, I don't really do MTBing but I guess I'm getting interested coz I've probably done enough road riding this year. I just want a new toy. It'll never get used.
-
• #12304
Isn't there some horrible 24hr race in the depths of winter in Scotland coming up? Sounds ideal to ruin I mean break in a new toy
-

your thick layer of blubber will come in useful.
-
• #12308
dangit, you've given away my ulterior motive/survival strategy!
Actually now that I think about it I think the solo category sold out.
-
• #12309
solo category

I'm still recovering from having done One Night In Thetford solo. Strathpuffer solo? Fuck me, not a chance. Bravo to the brave souls who do though.

Still have until the 31st to go in for cheap rates at Mountain Mayhem. Let's do this pls
Six of One, Half Dozen of the Other - Open (team of 3) any combination men/women/mixed £160
who for 3? @umop3pisdn? @platypus?
-
• #12313
Ooh, maybe I can....
Oh wait
-
• #12314
go on then!
I should be doing a (foot) marathon in February, then HT550 in May.... -
• #12315
We've been talking about doing Strathpuffer for years at work. None of us are competent or stupid enough to actually do it.
(I'm stupid enough)
-
• #12317
but I think it sold out ¯_(ツ)_/¯
"do you know who the fuck I am?!"
-
• #12318
My only MTBs are old singlespeeds.
This sounds stupid.
I think I want to enter. -
• #12319
Single speed is okay, I think half the challenge is having a reliable bike that makes it all the way around! Derailleurs are a weak point.
Poke through some pictures, some folks are on rigid forks and singlespeed
-
• #12320
Oh OKAY.
-
• #12321
it looks too much like self harm to me.
6hr solo BigDog hits the sweet spot (unless raining).
-
• #12322
Good point. I've only ever ridden on teams and even then I usually had two bikes - a rigid steel SS and a cheap alu hardtail. I used to crash a lot but none of my stuff was weight weenie so I'd just break computer mounts and lights and maybe twist bars. That was 20 years ago though.
-
• #12323
If I'm going all the way up there I want to get my money's worth.
Mountain Mayhem looks more reasonable given I can't ride dirt for shit.
-
• #12324
computer
That was 20 years ago though.

Someone talk me out of buying an RS1, converting it to 120mm and building a lightweight 29er trail 'slayer' like a Pivot 429.
Been listening to a lot of Hidden Athlete podcasts, including Kate's one:
