After having a sweet ride on the Devil, I entered their other event, the Autumn Epic. It's meant to be a bit easier. Anyone else? Entries are up to about 790 from 1000 max.
signed up. anyone else? sam, illy, dogs? growing list of entries, 800+ now. should find a decent peloton in there

Too far (away) for me.

Another fine ride from the Wild Wales Challenge organisers this year. Maximum gradient turned out to be 23%, which was nice. To my shame, I was beaten by a man dressed in tweed on a flat bar hybrid.
I've found the best road for a hill climb challenge in Harlech, a twisty 40% with the caution "unsuitable for motors". What GI do you recommend for that?

Circuit of Kent sportive today..
It was good. Weather was fucking ace!
I was running late so I started basically last except for a guy fixing a puncture.
Passed everyone I saw except for 3 guys from De Ver Cycles who I lost when I started cramping.
I think I almost got a gold time (Sam later confirmed 3min off it - doh!).
Almost caught Sam on the last hill but I was cramping up like a mofo :)
Loads of marshalls, food and jazz band at the end, moto outriders, very well done.Fastest time was apparently 3:03 WTF?! but that's an AVERAGE speed of 42kph. Timing error?
I came in 43rd out of 149 and I bet most of the fuckers in front of me were riding in nice little bunches whereas my time was a all solo baby! Those cheating bastards! ;)Anyone interested in the Tour of Dartmoor?

top effort hipster, considering you've done sweet FA riding on the tarmac.

• #435
not enough water for you today then aqua boy?
-
• #436
It's funny.. I'm almost as fast without any training :)
It just hurts a lot more :S
I have sunburn again! Fucking love the sun! Woot! This will keep all winter now :)

Will be pedalling around the south of France then, but might try the Falling Leaves ride in October.

I really do prefer riding in the dry, seriously! :)
The wet is good because it eliminates the pussies and my placing goes up up up :D -

That chap with the fastest time is an Irish pro IIRC
-
• #440
I note the second quickest time is someone with the same surname, maybe he paced him 3/4 of the way round before pulling over?? Either that of definitely a timing/rider error.
I thought you did a 5hr 47min effort, Aqua Man??
A-140 137 713 Freddie Hippi 5:47:09
Achieved just what I wanted, a silver medal. Scraped in by 43 seconds recording 4hrs 44min. Pulled over at the finish to hear in a Southern Hemisphere accent "Sam you bastard". Didn't know hippy was so close to me at the end, I was gunning it like a madman to get the silver.
My brother missed out by nearly 2 minutes. That's the difference between walking or riding up One Tree Hill (or Carters Hill for some).
All in all a great day out, again done with no training (I hate it). Hadn't touched the Olmo for a month, had had only ridden to work once in the eight days previous. My knes are aching like fcuk this morning!

Freddie Hippi? haha Poor bastard :)
I was gunning like a retarded seal to catch you. I knew I shouldn't have stopped for cakes and said hi to all the marshalls and waited for the guy to fill his bidon and.. ah whatever! :)
I'm fucking sore today though.. need to get back into regular long rides if I'm doing ToI. -

Tour of Dartmour looks good. but i am not going to ready (the road bike needs a group set with some teeth)
I did notice the North Cornwall 100m ride opens for entry next month. any done this one before? -
• #443
What groupset? A cassette and new chainrings take 15min to fit. I smell the whiff of lame excuse. :P
Why would I go to North Cornwall to ride 100m? Is it a cliff face or something?
Yours in sarcastic bliss,

It's all smiles in Sunny Kent...

Autumn Epic.. another one done and dusted.. or should that be fucking completely soaked.
Crazy wet. "Epic" flood crossing. "Epic" dams in the Elan valley. Saw dandy horse heading the wrong way (going for extra mileage I think). Awesome views. Nice B&B. Extra day off to wander Knighton and surrounds with girlie. Organisers/valunteers did really well, pity the rainman couldn't chip in or butt out. Came in around 150th from 420 finishers out of 1000 entrants (no show slackers!) without training or trying. I like Wales.Let's go for the triple...
"Note the walkers". -
