  • illy, guys, i am out of the run to brighton - can't make saturday. might do it solo on sunday instead, but will see how head feels.

kelvin, yeah i have done the Isle of Wight the last four years. first time on a slicked up mtb then then last three on my current fixed
BMMF - 48x18. there are no killer hills on the Isle of Wight, only two that are quite hard. otherwise it is just up and down all day. it's a good ride.

i will be doing it this year, with a bunch of mates i have dragged down there the last few years. would be good to see some lfgss lot down there too.

  • brett, if you make it along to the west end beers tomoz would be good if you could run thru that brighton route with me or give me your little print out bit. might do it on sunday. give you and the others a 24 hour head start ;)

  • I'll have a look around for some cheat sheets I printed for last time.

    Here's the route anyway:

I can't make saturday either sadly so might be up for doing it sunday too jonny - we'll talk tomorrow!

  • nice one brett. cheers mate

  • jonny illy, guys, i am out of the run to brighton - can't make saturday. might do it solo on sunday instead, but will see how head feels.

That's a shame, would have been good to see you there. Best of luck on the TT to Brighton. Going to be putting on the drops and letting rip?

  • I'm going to start a list, just for the sake of starting a list:

    1. illy
    2. hippy
    3. BringMeMyFix
    4. fatboyralph

    Mode: Gears
    Hook-up: ?
    Leave: ?
    Route: Courtesy of ?

  • All: So, are we starting early or is it still 9.30? I think last time we met near Borough tube or was that something else? Sobriety really fucks your memory! :)

jonny: I'll be out in the Chilts again Sunday I reckon with the WCC slow bunch. Any idea how much it costs to get to Isle of Wight? I have mem of paying £30 for the festival but got that through work anyway.

All: Is anyone up for taking lights and riding back?

  • i reckon 0830 start. the borough start was for the hillclimb. three of us from the west, where's BMMF comin from? how about we start at battersea park?

  • 8.30 sounds okay as long as everyone else is comfortable. Battersea suits me, though I don't know it very well - how about meeting on one of the bridges?

I'm up for bringing lights and seeing how we feel then making a decision on whether to ride back or not.

  • I signed up for Tour of Wessex..... very scared now!

Im doing L2P end of June so if I make it through TOW I will feel much more confident.

I think Fasteddy posted a link to the L2P site and the wonderful Calendar they have out for 2008. Might start a thread off myself just to keep telling everyone about it.

  • hippy, train/ferry combo comes in at about £40/£45 round trip. i have always stayed in the same (really nice) b & b on the south of the island. gonna try somewhere else this year as the new proprietor propositioned my flatmate and fellow rider last year. seriously, he was coming on to her and whispered to "oh, come on, i will lick you out and everything".

get along to west end beers tomorrow and will tell you about it. they serve cola and all that.

  • 8.30 is fine. One of the bridges better - Battersea Bridge? I'm coming from Old St, BTW.

I suppose I could bring lights, but I don't have any light-up-the-road types, and doubt I'll have the legs to be honest.

  • I am very interested in the IoW ride. When is it Jonny?

If you need you can borrow a 5w + 5w helogen set of mine if you fancy. Battery life of about 5 -6 hr on one bulb and about half on two. WIll need charging and a bottle cage to use. Not the best but useable. :)

  • 4th may dude. it's always on the sunday of the first bank holiday weekend in may.

we go down saturday. take it easy, maybe spin around a bit of the island. then sunday the ride proper followed by many beers. monday make our way back home.

been really good every time. and i go with a real mixed ability bunch of mates. would be cool if a load of lfgss go down there and i will certainly hook up. but will ride with my usual lot as team leader, mentor, guru, shamen type. hell yeah.

  • Thanks for the offer Tommy - you've reminded me I've got an old SMART 10W single beam thing with the same bottle cage battery set-up; knocking about somewhere and in need of juice I expect.

I might just have to accidentally leave it at home anyway ;)

  • same here. not sure bout riding back. my old 15w lights are powered by a 1.5kg SLA battery...if im goin to carry that heavy, better be something i can drink and eat! if we get there early enough, might have enough daylight for lighter "to-be-seen" lights on the return. doubt ill survive a 200kms tho...might need some bail out routes (nearest train station)

  • That's true - if we were swift, we might be back inside the M25 before darkness falls. Still don't think I'll have the legs though...

  • "I signed up for Tour of Wessex..... very scared now!"

good one RP. did you sign up for three days? few of the lfgss posse now for ToW. dont worry too much, do what i do, tuck in and hide....hahaha

ive had a look at the timebands, and for my age category, to get silver, i have to finish under 5hr15min in first stage. sounds tough...bronze all the way for me!

I think quite a few people might be up for the IoW one might be worth it's own thread nearer the time...

  • http://www.cycleisland.co.uk/ 4th May. Told Mal about it. Would be great to get her out on a longer, less-car type ride.

RP: Do I know you from another forum? Do you know wayne? Are you who I think you are?

All: 8.30 South side of Battersea Bridge ok?

Good one Hippy I was toying with the idea if Jo is got her cycling leg good enough by then of seeing if she fancy a go at the 55 km ride.

  • Seeing as it's the day before my birthday, I'd quite like to get Faith out on her SS for the IoW as well :)

Maybe I could do it on my fixed Inbred with the childseat - it'll be like some kind of Enid Blytonesque outing, minus the racism.

PS. 8.30am South of Battersea Bridge suits me.

  • I'll be running the fscking cursed contis so expect me to have all 8 punctures of the ride...

IOW: We could get group booking. We're probably fscked getting bikes there though :)
Could ride down there on Sat? and meet partners for the loop recovery ride. :)

    Plan!

On the monday we could always try and get the ferry back to Lymington and pop over to Calshot to have a look. Maybe I am getting too ambitious.
