They're a useful £80 cheaper than the Wolvhammer ones: http://www.dc-cycles.co.uk/21537/products/45nrth-fasterkatt-spd-boot.aspx
But still- an SPD sole.
I'm starting to get the impression that I am the only person who wishes to use road pedals in winter.

Well most would say that the ability to put your foot down, and unclip quickly is far more important than any advantage a road pedal gives. When the temps hit 0ish. Have you considered getting some BeBops? Zero centering force like speedplay, MTB cleat, and a nice large contact area.

They look interesting.
I've already got the Speedplays though.

Why not just use the 3-bolt adapter like I do? If 1mm of extra stack height for a lot more choice of shoe.

You use Speedplay cleats on 2 bolt/SPD shoes?

I commuted in them for ages. Might still have them. But I seem to remember blowing a bearing. If I have them I can stick them in the post for you to try. They feel very much like speedplays. The main downside is that the cleat is massive. So your grippy rubber MTB shoe soles turn into ice skates. Plus I found clicking more tricky than my usual crankbros system.

He was riding fixed with his though. Never felt they were up to that, and thats from someone with crank bros on his fixed bike.

I've become a convert to wearing silk liner gloves to keep my hands warm in colder temperatures. I'm thinking this winter will be much more tolerable with a similar combination of silk and merino on my feet. Does anyone have a recommendation on the silk side of things?

No, I use Speedplay cleats on a 3-bolt road shoe. You wanted a road shoe, didn't you?
-
• #637
Yes, I do- however everyone is coming up with links to 2 bolt shoes.
-
• #638
That's nice.
Why not buy a pair of Shimano road shoes or whatever brand you are currently hot for and then use the adapter plate?
-
• #639
That is my intention.
However what is happening is I say "Who has seen these Lake CX 145 shoes anywhere in the UK/for sale by someone who will ship to the UK?" and people will respond with a link to some undoubtedly awesome MTB boots.

Asking the same question over and over expecting a different answer is..
Ask this lot where you can find them: http://www.todayscyclist.co.uk/product.aspx?X=LSH841-36 They have a retailer list.
Winter shoes aren't a common purchase so most shops won't keep stock. Head to someone who can speak to the distributor. Scherrit used to deal with a LAKE guy.

^ Bingo, there are some exception such as Evans where the sock levels in their warehouse are always low compare to smaller shop whom deal directly with distributor.

Maybe they need garters?

Well I was thinking about my own feet. I wasnt being difficult. Just selfish.
I can only really think of the lakes. Otherwise get some 45NRTH insoles, Thick Merino XC ski socks, The next best 3 hole shoes, and some overshoes.

If your feet need that much shit over them.. have you considered turbo training?

Or use MTB pedals? Speedplay Frogs?

I've now had surgery to remove tumors on both my feet, they don't like the cold.
I like riding my bike outdoors in the winter.
These two things are not easy to reconcile, unfortunately.

I just don't get how there are so many really good warm winter cycling shoes and they all use the same cleat bolt spacing, and yet the search for the unobtainable 3 bolt boot continues rather pointlessly
The 45NRTHs indeed look awesome. Reaaly want to find some Fastercats in my size for cheap.
45NRTH = nice'n'warm but pricey.
