No, that's sort of the point I'm making, also- sizes vary quite widely between different makes.

My bont's fit perfectly according to their sizing graph.

None of the UK suppliers that a quick Google turn up do either half sizes or "wide" fittings though, so would a 45 work?

Or would I end up with another pair of shoes that almost, but not quite, fit.

this page has a lot on fitting for Bonts

That Bont measuring chart assumes very thin socks. Measure again with very thick socks and allow a bit of slack.
In summer I wear 45.5 Sidis, after summer is over I wear 46.5s with thick socks and when it gets really cold I wear some ancient Sidi MTB boots that are a 47, but I can add fleece socks over ordinary socks and a thick insole.
They are really sloppy fitting but I can cope with well below freezing for a while, but I also use some battery heated insoles. If I am out for any long winter rides as soon as I feel a slight chill I turn the soles on. Absolutely amazing! -

If I could find the right size I'd just buy 2 pairs of summer and two pairs of winter and forget about it for the next ten years.

Why is this thread active? It's not even cold. #ukweathermakenosense

True, I am currently wearing winter boots though as they are the only shoes I brought with me.
I re-did the Bont thing with socks, and it reveals "45 wide".
Now, what would that be in Sidi? 45 Mega?
My Ergo 2's are considerably tighter than my Dragon 2's, so sizing is not that consistant even within Sidi, godamnit. That said they are both 44's.

i reckon i'm definitely missing something but why don't you just go to a shop that stocks sidi shoes and try them on?

That trick never works.

dammit
i think both you and i have started to realise how sidi have different sizing for their summer race shoes (which are designed for wearing with thin socks) and more general use shoes that can accommodate wider feet and thicker socks

Because I am sat at my parents house on Boxing day looking at buying some shoes on the Internet, and therefore trying to work out what size I need by educated guess-work.
I freely admit that this is not the best way of doing things.
Also, I tried on my current Sidi's in the shop and still got it wrong, so I might have better luck this way!
(Yes, I am a retard)

just wait to borrow my 46 and 46.5 dominators and then see which are best

That's far too sensible.

Even with bib tights, winter boots AND sealskinz socks I still had cold toes when I got in this morning - and it was only 6 miles and -3C. I have shit circulation.
