  • Just ordered me some winter boots - Diadora Artic - see the eBay thread:

  • Anyone else using Hard trail running shoes for wet weather cycling? i'm looking at these, inov-8 Roclite 318 GTX Trail Shoes

    gore-tex, looks not to bad..

Also looking at new balance and Assics.

  • ^^ They look good steff and reasonable price on ebay. If only I had the money. I'll stick with my army surplus gortex socks for now.

  • Very narrow fit on diadora.

  • I have a pair of diadora cycling shoes and would second that, fit me better than my specalized though, I have girls feet.

  • Literally, I have a collection of girls feet.

  • Very narrow fit on diadora.

The eBay vendor noted that they come up small, so I went for 45 rather than the usual 44. My feet are exactly on the border between regular and narrow in Alt Berg boots, for instance, so (with fingers crossed) I reckon I should be OK.

  • If I can try on some Gaernes I might go for one of these.

Which model are those Gaernes SF? Can't see them on the Gaerne site & I like the look of them for the upcoming northern winter.

EDIT: Think I found them - Eskimos right?

I run in the slightly lighter 312 GTX's. Very well made shoes, that sit well on the foot.

I've never had them leak, and they breath well considering. But once you've filled them with water, it doesnt drain out. So a mini-gaiter is a good idea.

    Yep.

Just read that the fit is dodgy though. Might look for the Polar instead. Ideally I'll get some Northwaves, I just cant find them cheap enough :(

  • re. water ingress over the top of overshoes.

I found pairs of neoprene ankle supports in a pound shop at the weekend and cut off the loop that goes under the foot leaving a 3 inch band that fits very snugly over the top of the overshoe and tight against my ankle.

If I add the 99p calf supports they also had over the top of that arrangment I can have knee high neoprene bootees. And look like a twat. But with dry feet.

  • You know what the next logical step is, right?
The only answer is: full wetsuit!

  • How are your overshoes?

Ace! They have been in hibernation over summer, mind. Working themselves up for an outing soon.

  • If it is bad weather I have a set of gortex socks which I find great. Most hiking shops should do them, have to say I havent seen them in bike shops.

  • Right, so its monsoon season here.

I've started the Ark, but it'll take time. So I've decided to get a dedicated pair of winter shoes, preferably MTB. But as I rock BeBop pedals, could do road shoes.

Those Diadora above are the best buy by far. But I have high volume feet (known as pasty feet where I come from). So would prefer something from Northwave or Spesh.

If anyone spots a bargin, could they post it here.

    Propa job.

  • Pearl Izumi also seem to run wide. People said Specialized do but I had no problem with my ladies pair of MTB shoes.

    Cheers.
The Spesh were on my list purely from hearsay. They dont seem hardcore enough for the cost anyway. I currently commute in Lakes (forgot them above). So might look around for some MZ302 (sz 45).

  • I got mine on sale so they were worth it though they are suede and thus subject to the weather.

Had some Inov-8s for running. Was very disappointed by their longevity, or absence of it more to the point. Asics on the other hand go on for ever, and you can get the goretex ones at Sports Direct for about £50 currently.

  • ^^ I'm afraid to say I had to send my Tempo ones straight back to CRC after the stitching fell apart in my hands as I took them out of the packet!

    Could've been a one-off though I suppose...
