I know you'll all disapprove, but The Rocket, A wetherspoon in putney, has everything.
Its got tonnes of outside space, on the river[IMHO the reason Wests was so good in the first place], cheap good food (just had a massive fish and chips and it was better than anything I've had in London so far, the space outside allows for non- pub drinking and eating, its in a nice place, I can't fault it, except for it being a Wetherspoons.....

Are you saying that this Wetherspoon have it's own menu? rather than the typical Wetherspoon mircowaved food?

Yes- this is what I ate:

The fish was fresh, the chips were so filling I couldn't finish them, the mushy peas were fucking amazing and the batter was perfect beer battered loveliness. And though I'm not 100% it was homemade tartare sauce.
The Boathouse gastropub thingy opposite serves much worse food (IMO) for more money.

Will go again and again. Top stuff. And I'm somewhat prissy about food (especially fish and chips- spoilt by Devon!)

Right, I'm gonna speak to the landlord @the raven, who seems like a laid back, easy going guy, and get the large table under the roof reserved for us. Also the chef is a cyclist and was pretty keen to do some decent veggie food.

While Weatherspoon's Rocket is no doubt cheap beer and food and quality, it looks too new to me, no sawdust, no spitoons, and is right in Hooray Henry land with the flats above it.

The Raven does good beer, and the bugger and chips I had there was good, although I'll be buggered if I can remember how much it was.

The Raven looks nicely "used" and comfortable and that's good to me, and the crowning glory is it has a Wubble you postcode, so is a clear winner on that alone.

predictably what happened to me last thurs was i went to the rollapalooza urban hill climb on my way to Wests not on the way at all and ended up drinking in the Flask with assorted forumgers.
