Can anyone recommend a good pub with good food around London Bridge? North or south of the river is fine, happy to walk a bit if it's needed

The Royal Oak on Tabard Street does a good roast on Sunday...think the food is also decent during the week. By borough tube station. The Roebuck is also decent and a stone's throw from the Royal Oak...

The Hide isn't really a pub but does beer and decent food...just after the tunnel on bermondsey street. The Woolpack is also decent (but often busy) and a little further down.
Also the Anchor tap by Tower Bridge gets decent reviews, although I've never been.

If I had to pick one I'd go for the Royal Oak...great ale and a lovely little pub. I was there on sunday with family and it was great.

Hey folks.
It's my friend's 29th tonight and he's decided he wants to go out in shoreditch. Being his best mate, and also because he's already drunk, it falls to me to ensure the group doesn't end up somewhere shite/stupidly loud/stupidly expensive/full of hipsters.
Suggestions folks? Currently VIBE bar is top of the list, I'm worried it'll be a combination of the 4 things above..

Shoreditch?
-
• #286
East London is lame. Try Brentford.
-
• #287
Shoreditch- full of hipsters. sorry but it is. you're not going to escape them unless you go to browns.....
-
• #288
I know, I know, it's the home of the fashionistas, which is precisely why i've avoided it generally for so long. But now I find myself going behind enemy lines, i'd appreciate any advice.. Now that the foundry is shut, is there nowhere left that's good?
-
• #289
Ha, you're all wrong. There are no hipsters any more in Shoreditch, they will all be going out in Dalston or elsewhere. It will be full of wannabe hipsters - actually worse.
-
• #290
Thanks Fox.. that makes me feel......
...worse!
:p
-
• #291
Full of northern hairdressers tonight I expect

And Iain, complaining about the noise

Just looking at the VIBE website is making me feel ill..
Ha ^
Tell him Shoreditch is over and go to Dalston Jazz Bar. All the true hipsters have moved on elsewhere, but it's normally fun and the cocktails are strong as ever.
I would suggest you go to the Jolly Butchers in Stoke Newington, which is actually good, but he'll probably think that's not exciting enough.
My 2p. Feel free to disregard, most people would...

I'd like to hear the outcome of this night more so than the planning.
I liked The Griffin but they stopped serving Hoegaarden.

Fox
Vibe bar isn't in Shoreditch. Neither's Brentford. And as for being so up to date to tell us that Dalston is hip - it's not exactly a secret. -
• #296
I know nothing about Vibe bar. It seemed to be a secret to most of the people up thread! I'm just trying to be helpful, I make no claims about being up to date, really...
Oh, I forgot about the George and Dragon. That is still, AFAIK, good, but I've not been for a while.
Failing that I can tolerate the Old Blue Last. Both of these pubs are actually in Shoreditch.

If I was Kips I'd just go home now.

+1.

The OBL can do one. £5 for a pint of Hoegaarden. Get the fuck out.

Plus they haven't redecorated it yet have they? Feckin' needs it. Don't get me wrong I really hate the Vice empire, but if you put a gun to my head and said go out in Shoreditch tonight and you can't go to the George and Dragon I'd go there.
Where's the best pub for coffee?
